There were 29 members in attendance today with Nancy Rogers visiting as a guest.  Several happy dollars were shared and Vern reported a can deposit from over the weekend of $23.75. Dean Rogers shared that John 15 Vineyard will be featured on Iowa Public Television "Iowa Ingredient" on Friday, May 29th at 6:30 pm and Saturday, May 30th at 11:30 am. Linda reported that the Aktion Club assisted with flags at the cemetery over the weekend and are selling tickets for their June 14th dance at the Elk's Club. See Linda for tickets or to make a donation to help fund travel for five members to the Aktion Club Leadership conference in Indianapolis. Mark reported that the sign-up sheet for the Bell Tower food stand will be available next week. Pat reported that the club has the date of August 18th for Farmer's Market food and serving.

Linda reported on the successful Aktion Club Holiday Party attended by 48 people! Vern reported that Salvation Army Bell Ringing was a success last weekend and that where are a few openings for ringers this week. President Monthei reminded club members that we will meet informally the next two weeks and order off the menu.

President Monthei announced that the weekly club meetings on Dec. 24th & Dec. 31st will be informal gatherings at the Uptown and we will order off the menu. Hollie & Linda reported that the Aktion Club Christmas Party will be at 5:00pm on Dec. 15th at the Elks Lodge. The Hat & Mitten tree is also still up at the courthouse. A can deposit of $46.25 was reported for Dec. 4-9th. Our club is responsible for Salvation Army Bell Ringing this weekend and Vern passed around the sign-up sheet.

Linda reported on the recent Aktion Club Meeting. They are getting ready for a busy holiday season with Bell Ringing, ARC, and their Christmas party on Dec. 15th. They recently donated over $600 to several worthy causes! A get well card was available for members to sign for Verle Bennett who is recuperating from a fall at GCMC.

President Monthei passed around a cash collection container for the ARC Food Panty. You can bring goods or donate cash again next Wednesday. President Monthei is interested in having another fundraiser possibly in February. More research and discussion will be done in the future and reported to membership. The club is also looking a doing a major community project for our club anniversary in two years.

There were 33 members in attendance with Les & Mindy visiting from the Aktion Club. Many happy dollars were shared and Vern reported a can deposit of $58.40 for the past week. A final report was heard on the successful pancake breakfast noting an estimated profit of around $3,600! The audit committee reported to membership that they had completed the review of our club finances and that all is well. President Monthei reported on a planning meeting he attended for the Eliminate KURE baton exchange motorcycle ride across the US. Riders could be crossing Iowa during the Bell Tower Festival in June. Hollie reported on Aktion Club activities and that the Sock/Mitten/Cap Tree will be going up soon in the courthouse rotunda and that they are planning their Christmas party in December. There will be a board meeting on Friday at the Uptown Cafe at 7:00am.

Dave gave a Silent Services Auction report which included 100% participation from members. Team Goshon won the fundraising challenge and team members will be receiving $5 Sierra Theatre Gift Cards. Preliminary numbers indicate that the auction will raise over $5,000 for the club to use in the community! Thanks to Dave and Marla and all members for their support of this new fundraiser. Rick reported on another successful Pancake Breakfast with 410 people served. The estimated profit from this event is around $2,850. Dan Benitz was awarded a new Kiwanis cap for high sales in the amount of $923.00! Vern reported a can drop deposit of $67.35.

There were 37 members present today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. Vern reported that he and Denny H. assisted at the Pre-School Open House Tuesday night. Hollie reported on the Aktion Club Officer installation and reminder members about their Halloween Party Sunday from 2-4 pm. Reports were heard on the Silent Auction and Pancake Breakfast. President Monthei noted a donation was received from Deal's Orchard in the amount of $800 for grilling at their open house weekend. Vern spoke about kiwanis t-shirts and caps that he has for sale. Vern also shared that we are scheduled to ring the bell for Salvation Army locally on December 12th & 13th. A can drop deposit of $75.60 was also reported. The Rec Center is looking for volunteer zoombies on Tuesday, Oct. 28th at Daubendiek Park-contact Vicky if you can help out.

We had 34 members in attendance today.  Les visited from the Aktion Club and John Nelson was a guest.  Several happy dollars were shared.  John Green had a great time on his vacation, but had to borrow a dollar in order to talk about it!!  Dave Jaskey encouraged everyone to take a look at the Silent Auction set-up at the courthouse and to ask people to go bid.  We have 100% participation for the Silent Auction!  The grilling at Deal's Orchard was a huge success with approximately 2,400 items grilled.  Thanks to everyone who helped.  Kiwanians were asked to help with the Habitat for Humanity house at 901 W. Washington this Saturday the 18th from 8:30-2:00.  The sign-up sheet is going around for helpers with the Pancake Breakfast on October 25th.  Vern reported recycling of $46.60.  Hollie reminded the club that the Aktion Club meets Monday, the 20th, at 4:30 pm.  Gerry Bugg will be attending as it is the Installation of Officers for the Aktion Club.  The Aktion Club will be having a Halloween Dance on October 26th from 2-4 pm.

President Goshon asked members to vote on the proposed club bylaws and this vote passed unanimously. Vern reported a can deposit $45.05. Hollie reported on the Aktion Club meeting from Monday. They nominated club officers and will hold an election on Oct. 5th. They are also busy planning for their Halloween Party. The club has been give the date of Saturday, Oct. 18th as our Habitat for Humanity work day.

Tom mentioned that the sign-up sheet for workers needed for the food stand at the fair will be available next week. Bob Allen presented the club with a donation of $200 from Wild Rose for the clubs work during the gaming commission visit to Jefferson.

There were 30 members present today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. The club held an induction ceremony for new members Susan Sanders and Jack Fredrickson. Welcome to Susan & Jack!! Bob reported a can deposit of $103.45. Marla gave a Vern update, which was highly anticipated. Hollie and Pat attended a Teen Maze meeting last week and reported that Greene County students will attend on March 27th. We are asked to provide volunteers for the 8:30am-12:00pm shift and some bars.  Linda reported on the Aktion Club meeting from last Monday. They are busy preparing for Relay for Life, including a Bake Sale, and they are planning another Pizza Ranch work night. They are also planning to attend the Aktion Club Regional Conference in Newton on April 7th.

Happy Birthday Harry! He also shared information about an opportunity for members to donate $1,000 to Eliminate and receive a Walter Zeller plus a partial match from Kiwanis. Pat M. reported that she will be attending a Teen Maze meeting on Thursday evening. Linda S. reported that the Aktion Club will have a meeting Monday, Feb. 17th.

The Greene County High School Special Olympics team proudly display their new shirts, courtesy of the Jefferson Kiwanis Club and Shine on Designs - also of Jefferson.  The team competed at the North Central basketball competition held in Fort Dodge on February 6, 2014.  All divisions are separated by age, gender and skill ability.  The athletes took home the following places and ribbons:

Cole DeHoet:  1st place (16-21 male division)  Cole will go on to state competition at the  University of Iowa.

Kim Stanek:  1st place (16-21 female division)  Kim also qualified for state.

Rylie Breheny:  2nd  (16-21 female division) Kourtlin Thacker:  3rd  (16-21 male division) Melissa Rice:  3rd  (16-21 female division)

There were 24 members in attendance today.  Les Reinhart was visiting from the Aktion Club.  Many happy dollars were shared.  No can deposit was reported.  Dennis Goshon informed the club of Nadine Bennett's passing.  Jack Williams shared news of his new partner, Leo.  Leo is the new Greene County K-9 dog.  We expect to see Leo soon at a future meeting.  Linda reported the Aktion Club is currently raising funds and preparing for Relay for Life.  Terry Johnson presented a history and updates on the Genesis Corporation.  He discussed all the different businesses which are part of Genesis.  It is always a pleasure to have Terry join us and we thank him for his continued efforts at Genesis.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on February 7, 2014.  President Dennis Goshon called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Jack Williams.

There were 27 members in attendance today. Susan Sanders was a visitor of Toni Linberg. Les Reinhart was also visiting from the Aktion Club. Welcome to both of them! Several thank you's and happy dollars were shared. Bob reported a can deposit of $118.25 for the last several weeks. Hollie and Linda reported on the Aktion Club. They recently received a $548 dollar donation from the Greene County Motorcycle Charity which raised funds for the club at their Bell Tower Festival Poker Run & Bike Show. Linda shared that they waited tables at the Pizza Ranch last week which was a fundraiser for they Eliminate Project fund.

There were 32 members in attendance today with visitors Ben Yoder, Jack Fredricksen, and Les Reinhart. Ben invited all members to attend the annual Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday evening, January 27th. Birthdays and happy dollars were shared including the last $3 brought back from Hawaii by President Goshon!

The goal was $9,000.00 for this year.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on January 3, 2014.  President Dennis Goshon called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Rod Kleitsch.  

There were 31 members in attendance today with Jack Fredrickson (guest of Dan Benitz) and Les Reinhart visiting. It was great to have Verle Bennett back visiting the club today from his leave of absence. A record number of happy dollars were shared. Vern reported a can deposit of $68.45 for the past 13 days. Vern also shared that approximately $4,600 has been collected so far from Salvation Army Bell Ringing. This is only half the amount of the goal that was set for this year.

Hollie reported on the Aktion Club Christmas party which was attended by around 48 people. They went caroling, had a gift exchange, and a meal. A fun time was had by all!

There were 29 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. President Goshon called the meeting to order with several birthdays and anniversaries. Vern reported a can deposit of $31.30 for the last week. Hollie reported that the Aktion Club will be caroling from 5-6pm next Monday, Dec. 16th and will have their Christmas dinner at 6:00pm. All Kiwanians are invited to attend both events.

 Linda reported on a very successful hat and mitten tree collection and the distribution to various local organizations. Vern reported the current amount raised for Salvation Army with Bell Ringing is $3,304. Our club needs more bell ringing volunteers for this Friday and Saturday, contact Vern if you can help out. Rick McCollom was nominated by the board to fill Lisa Jaskey's directors position due to her resignation. The club will vote on this appointment next week.

There were 30 members in attendance today with guests Andy McGinn and Les Reinhart visiting the club. Vern reported a cam deposit of $55.15. Linda reported on the Aktion Club meeting from last week. They will be serving popcorn this Sunday on the square and having a Christmas party/caroling on Dec. 16th. Vern reported the total collected by Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army is $1,820 so far. It was also noted that 90% of the funds raised stay in Greene County. Vern reminded members that the Blood Mobile will be held at the GCMC Public Health on Dec. 10th. President Goshon reminded members that we need to sign up for Bell Ringing on Dec. 13/14 and that there is a board meeting this Friday morning.

There were 32 members in attendance today. Special occasions and many happy dollars were shared. Vern F. reported a can deposit of $30.75 and the club members donated $103 dollars to the food pantry. The collection will continue next week at the meeting also. Our Salvation Army Bell Ringing weekend is Dec. 13-14. We will provide staff at Ben Franklin and Fareway. We have 19 one hour slots during the weekend that need to be filled. Linda S. reported that the Aktion Club has a meeting on Monday and that they will be caroling and having a potluck on Dec. 16th. She also reminded club members to donate hats, mittens. and gloves as the tree is quite bare at the Courthouse. We are competing with the Rotary Club for the most items donated.

There were 36 members with guests Mike Wright and Gary Von Ahsen in attendance. Vern reported a can deposit of $31.00. President Goshon mentioned a Division Council meeting in Ames this Saturday from 8-9:30am. Contact Vern if you are available to go for an interclub. The Aktion Club Hat/Mitten/Sock Tree was mentioned and members reminded to donate. Rick M, reported a profit of around $3,000 from the recent Pancake Breakfast. Dan Benitz was the high ticket sales person. The local Salvation Army Bell Ringing group will be this week and we should have a schedule soon. Moving of the GCMC gazebo built by Kiwanis was briefly discussed due to the upcoming building project.

President Goshon requested that the club board meeting in be moved to November 8th. Updates on the Aktion Club and the Services Auction were heard. Vern F. will be placing an order with Kiwanis International soon and will bring the catalog next week if members want to order additional items.

Vern F. read the Board of Directors meeting minutes from the October meeting. Treasurer Bob S. reviewed the 2013-14 club budget with members in attendance. Hollie reported on the Aktion Club Officer installation which was held last Monday. They have planned a Halloween/Costume Party for Oct. 27th and invited all Kiwanis to join in the fun. They also mentioned that the Aktion Club Can Depot has been moved to Shadran.

Updates were heard on the upcoming Pancake Breakfast from Rick and Services Silent Auction from Dr. Dave. Lisa Jaskey was appointed to fill Bob Schwazkopf's term on the board of directors and the members voted in support of that appointment. An interclub to Nevada on Oct. 19 for their Pancake Breakfast is being planned by Vern. Reminder that we are grilling for the Alumni Reunion meal this Friday and parking cars at the RAM football game on Oct. 18th.

The Jefferson Kiwanis Club will be holding a Silent Service Auction from October 5^th to the 26^th. The auction will be open in the south foyer of the courthouse from Saturday, October 5^th to Friday October 25^th and at the Jefferson Elks Club from 6 to 11 am on Saturday October 26^th coinciding with the Kiwanis 41^st Annual Pancake Breakfast. Bidding will end at 11 am on October 26^th.

Everyone is encouraged to bid on the services being auctioned by the Kiwanis members and friends as well as attend the Kiwanis Annual Pancake Breakfast. The breakfast will include all-you-can-eat pancakes with warm fruit toppings and syrup, scrambled eggs, link sausages, biscuits and gravy, and beverages. The cost of the breakfast is $7 for adults and $2 for those under 10 years of age. The proceeds of these events will help the Kiwanis service projects for the betterment of the community and the children of the world.

There were 36 members in attendance today. Visitors included an interclub from Ames and Brenda and Les from the Aktion Club. We were also honored to have Lt. Governor Gerri Bugg in attendance to assist with the Officer Installation. Vern reported a can deposit of $60.60. A profit of $141 was announced from the Farmer's Market grilling event. Holly and Linda reported that the Aktion Club elected their new officers and are planning a dance in October. They also served popcorn at the Red Barn craft show. Randy mentioned a grilling opportunity on Oct. 4th (4:00 p.m.) for the All School Reunion. Sherry announced that there will be a photo opportunity at the Greene County Early Learning Center playground next Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 8:00 a.m.

They are considering having a Services Silent Auction where members donate services to auction off starting in the courthouse rotunda and finishing at the Pancake Breakfast on Oct.26th. There will be a club budget meeting at the Law Firm in the Lincoln building at 4:30pm on Sept.25th.

Linda reported that the Aktion Club has been busy with Farmer's Market and Hot August Nights, they will also have a meeting next Monday. The Aktion Club will also have 8 attending the national AKtion Club Leadership Conference in Indianapolis on Sept. 6-8th.

The La Canada Flintridge Kiwanis AM Club has organized a project that we believe has exceptional meaning and purpose in our ever challenging world, and fits well into the meaning and purpose of Kiwanis – to help children, here and throughout the world. 

In order to raise awareness of the Eliminate Challenge, our members have organized an historic motorcycle ride to a Kiwanis Club meeting in each of the 50 states of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii - the KURE2013 ride, Kiwanis Unity Ride to Eliminate.  We anticipate the ride to exceed 13,000 miles and to publicize an issue that Kiwanis International has partnered with UNICEF to support – the Elimination of Tetanus throughout the world.  We have affectionately named our rider-in-chief, Bob Burlison,  The Eliminator!  The ride leaves from our club in La Canada, California, on Memorial Day, 2013, with an anticipated finish at the same location on Labor Day, 2013.  We expect the ride to qualify as the "longest motorcycle ride in a single country" – a Guinness Book World Record, an achievement that would be a permanent reminder of the elimination of Tetanus worldwide.  Visit the project website to follow the trip across the United States.

There were 32 members in attendance with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. Toni Linberg was inducted as our newest member. Welcome Toni! Vern F. reported a can deposit of $57.40. Tom H. reported briefly on the Greene County Fair concessions. He will have a financial report at a later date. Randy M. talked about the plan for a food stand at Guthrie Center for Ragbrai next Monday. A group will meet at Shadran at 3pm Sunday to go to Guthrie Center City Park/Fairgrounds for setup. Volunteers are asked to meet on the east side of the HS or at Fareway at 6:00am Monday morning to load up supplies.

Division 11 Governor Jody Melcher from Nevada shared that there will be a Division Council meeting on Saturday, July 27th at the Ames Town & Country meeting. It will feature a Kiwanian that is riding his motorcycle cross-country raising money for the Eliminate project.

President Christensen reminded members of the board meeting on Friday and that new 2013-14 board members should attend. Vern F. reported a can deposit of $47.90. Linda S. reported that the Aktion Club met last Monday and that they are getting ready to serve popcorn, help with the BTF Cycle/Car Show and be in the parade on Saturday. The sign-up sheet for the Bell Tower Festival food stand was passed around by Mark Bauer. Workers are still needed if you can volunteer some time on Friday or Saturday (preferred).

Hollie reported that the Aktion Club met on Monday and that they were presented a certificate from Teen Maze for their help with that event. They also discussed upcoming events including Memorial Day flag raising and the Bell Tower Festival. Hollie also mentioned that they raised around $1,500 for Relay for Life. The membership voted to approve the following slate of officers for the 2013-14 year. Randy M. reported that we have submitted an application and payment to be a vendor at Guthrie Center on July 22 for Ragbrai.

There were 38 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. President Christensen called the meeting to order and reminded members of the board meeting on Friday. He also attend the Division Council meeting on Saturday in Ames and brought back Teen Maze Awards for Pat Miller, Hollie Roberts, Karen Pope, and Deb Geisler. Our club members that volunteered donated 67 hours of service to Teen Maze and obtained a double interclub! Vern F. reported a can deposit of $47.30. Linda S. shared that the Aktion Club took 6th place in fundraising for Relay for Life and that they will have a club meeting next Monday afternoon.  No officer/board nominations were heard from the floor, so voting will take place next week on our 2013-14 officers and directors. Randy M. reminded members that we will grill for Little League opening night Friday at 4:30pm. The meal will be available from 5-7pm.

There were 30 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. Many happy dollars were shared. Vern F. reported a can deposit of $46.80. President Christensen shared the plaque that the club received for being a Platinum sponsor of the Greene County Relay for Life. Don VG reported that the local Relay for Life event has raised around $50,000 so far! President Christensen reminded members of the Division Council meeting in Ames on Saturday and that he is planning to attend. Linda S. reported that Aktion Club popcorn sales went well Saturday at Relay for Life event. Bell Tower tour guide forms were made available for anyone who wishes to sign-up. The Greene County Motorcycle Charity has requested that the Kiwanis Club work with them in attaining a gambling license for the lift raffle in support of the Aktion Club. The club approved the request. A motion was made  and seconded from the floor to donate $250 towards the Iowa Market to Market Relay event to be held in Jefferson on Saturday, May 11th. This motion passed on a voice vote from members.

There were 34 members in attendance with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. Vern F. reported a can deposit of $34.90. Linda S. reported that the Aktion Club put up purple ribbons around the square last Friday. They also served popcorn at Spring Into Greene on Saturday. Aktion Club members met Monday to pack 48 boxes of food at the ARC food pantry. They will also be having a bake sale at Relay for Life this Saturday. Bill R. gave a summary of the Live Healthy Iowa event for our Kiwanis team. The group averaged 35 hours of activity a week. Mike Palmer and Vicky Lautner were the top two members of the team. Congratulations!  There was a good turnout of members last Friday evening for the Kiwanis One Day activity which was cleaning up the inside of the Courthouse square. Thanks to all that helped! Randy M. reported that we are grilling on May 25th at the Bike Festival and that we have reserved a vendor space in Guthrie Center for Ragbrai on July 22nd.

There were 30 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visiting from Aktion Club.  Dennis Goshon headed up our meeting in Tim's absence.  Several Happy Dollars were shared by members.  The board meeting minutes were read by Marla.  Vern reported the can recycling brought in $73.35 last week.  There is a Relay for Life photo opportunity on Friday, 4/12/13, when we are presented a plaque for our donation to the event.  The club members decided we would try to get a group to go to the Ragbrai Event in July.  On Monday, July 22nd, Guthrie Center is a 'meeting town.'  We will make preparations to go and a menu will be decided at a later date.  Linda reported the Aktion Club 'tip-night' event at the Pizza Ranch was a huge success.  About 10 members of the Aktion Club helped clean tables that night.  She reported $166 in tip money was given.  Hollie and Linda told of the many activities planned by the Aktion Club and thanked everyone who helped with the fundraiser at The Pizza Ranch.  Spring into Greene is this weekend.  Club members will use this opportunity to clean up the square on Friday night.  This will be our activity for Kiwanis ONE Day.  We will meet at 6 pm at the Bell Tower with brooms and shovels and beautify the square for Spring into Greene!!  Bob Smith volunteered to replace Amy Milligan on the Board due to her resignation.  The membership will vote to approve Bob on April 17th at the regular meeting.  This is SKIP-A-MEAL week.  Funds raised are given to Kiwanis International and used in various ways to help children around the world.  The 'small' basket was passed and $91 was the grand total!

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on April 5, 2013.  President Tim Christensen called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except David Jaskey, Lisa Jaskey and Dennis Goshon.  Bob Allen and Vern Foje were guests.

There were 31 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visting from the Aktion Club. Also, Bob A. brought John Sawhill as his guest. John is a new employee at Home St. Bank-welcome John! Vern F. reported a can deposit of $82.75 from recent collections. Linda S. reported that the Aktion Club is busy getting ready for Spring Into Greene and Relay for Life. They also have their Pizza Ranch fundraiser on April 8th. President Christensen reminded members about the board meeting on Friday. Bill R. reported that he will have a final report on Live Healthy Iowa after April 8th and the Kiwanis group is still going strong! A very successful Teen Maze reported was shared by the nine club members who worked at the event. Vicky L. thanked the seven Kiwanians that helped with the Easter Egg Hunt that was attended by 130 youngsters last Saturday.

They recently put together 1,000 smoker bags for the Teen Maze, they are serving popcorn at Spring Into Greene, and several members are attending officer training in Algona with Tom D. Bill R. awarded this week's Live Healthy Iowa Subway gift certificate to Sherry Palmer for her efforts. Vicki L. asked for several volunteers for the March 30 Easter Egg Hunt at the Rec. Center. The club discussed giving 20 movie theater gift certificates for the Easter Egg Hunt. Pat M. reported that the Teen Maze event is still looking for volunteers.

Vicki L. mentioned that they are raising funds to pay for US flags ($50 ea.) that need to be replaced in the avenue of flags.

Bob Smith reported that the interclub to Boone was cancelled due to the weather forecast. The next interclub opportunity is March 15th at the Ames Noon club. Linda S. reported on the Aktion Club meeting. Our own Don Van Gilder spoke at the Monday meeting about Relay for Life. The Aktion Club will be serving popcorn on Apr. 13th at Spring Into Greene. Pat M. reminded members about the need for workers at the Teen Maze. Greene County students will attend Teen Maze in Boone the morning of Apr. 2nd.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on February 1, 2013.  President Tim Christensen called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Jim Gerdes, Amy Milligan and Randy Monthei.

There were 27 members in attendance today with Les Reinhart visiting from the Aktion Club. We were also pleased to have an interclub from Nevada including Division 11 Lt. Governor Jody Melcher. Jody reported that there will be an Eliminate Regional Rally at a location to be determined on March 9th. She also shared that Kiwanis Camp OK for 5/6th grade TAG students will be held at the Boone YMCA Camp on June 2-7th. Pat M. reported on the Teen Maze meeting she attended. Students from Greene County will attend Teen Maze on Apr. 2nd. Our club will be involved in providing 1,000 goodie bags as well as assisting the Ames club with lunch on that day.

There were 32 members in attendance and two guests. Les Reinhart was visiting from the Aktion Club and McCellan Siruta was back and has turned in his membership application. We look forward to inducting McCellan into our club soon! President Christensen shared that he attended the Division Council meeting last Saturday morning in Ames. Pat M. will be attending a Teen Maze meeting Thursday evening, Jan. 17th. Bill R. spoke about his desire for the club to put together at least one Live Healthy Iowa team of ten people. Members are to send Bill a check and their t-shirt size and he will register the Kiwanis team. The event runs from Jan. 28-Apr. 5th. President Christensen welcomed back members for our first meeting in 2013. He also thanked Dean Rogers for taking care of the can drop and reported a deposit of $44.35. Several special occasions were noted and happy dollars shared. There did not appear to interest in an interclub this Saturday, January 12th to Ames, so we will try again on January 19th.

Vern reported on the Interclubs to Ames Golden K and Boone Noon. Linda reported that 44 attended the Aktion Club Christmas Party and thanked Rick and Denny for grilling. She also added that the Aktion Club members were thrilled with the movie theatre gift cards we provided them. President Christensen reported that the Salvation Army Bell Ringing fund in Greene County has grown to $4,870. Vern reported that he has met with Relay for Life representatives concerning our $1,250 sponsorship. Everett reported a can deposit of $30. There were 32 members in attendance today. President Christensen reminded members about the board meeting on Friday and Sheriff Tom Heater's retirement reception on Saturday, Dec 8th. A one week can deposit of $31.75 was reported. Vern and Bob are planning an interclub to Ames Golden K and Boone Noon on December 13th. Vern reported that so far the Salvation Army Bell Ringing has raised $2,134.00. Good job! The Aktion Club had a meeting last Monday and is busy ringing bells and getting ready for their Christmas Picnic and gift exchange at the Elks on Dec.17th.

Vern F. reported $204 collected from members for the ARC Food Panty and that a donation photo will be taken next Wednesday, Nov. 28th at 9:00am. The November board meeting minutes were read and are also posted on the website. Linda S. reported on the Aktion Club meeting from last Monday. They have decided to have a Christmas Picnic at the Elk's Lodge on Dec. 17 in lieu of a Christmas Lights Tour. They will have barbequed burgers, hot dogs and do a gift exchange. She also mentioned that Julie Blackmer placed 3rd in the national Aktion Club poster contest. She received a metal and certificate from the organization. The local Aktion Club will also be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on three Saturdays.

This was the second week for Food Pantry donations from club members. Vern F. reported that $204 was collected from members plus 20 food items. John M. reported that he attended the food packaging event in Boone last weekend and that they prepared over 650,000 meals that filled two semi trailers. President Christensen shared an invitation to Greene County Sheriff Tom Heater's retirement party (36 yrs. of service) on Dec. 8th from 2-4pm at the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Brenda B. gave the Aktion Club program about her trip to Washington, DC. The proceeds from their Halloween Dance at the end of the month will go to the food pantry. Karen P. reported on the Teen Maze organizational meeting held recently in Boone. Rick M. handed out Pancake Breakfast tickets to be sold for our fundraising event on Oct. 27th. Tom H. reported on the grilling event at Deal's Orchard from last Sunday with an estimated profit of $335.00. The second grilling event at Deal's is this Saturday from 10am-2:00pm. Reminder that there is a Board Meeting on Friday.

There were 26 members in attendance today with 7 guests including an interclub from Nevada. Dr. Dave Jaskey called the meeting to order as the Master of Ceremonies for the Officer Installation event. Dave welcomed all guests including Lt. Governor Jody Melcher. Christina Heath (sponsor Lisa Jaskey) visited again with her membership application in hand! Welcome Christina! Vern reported a can deposit of $47.00. There will be a budget meeting this Friday morning, Sept. 28th at 7am at the Uptown Cafe. Linda reported on the Aktion Club picnic, their meeting next Monday at 4pm, and that Brenda B. had a great trip to Washington, DC and will be available for a program soon. Rick shared that the Annual Pancake Breakfast tickets will be available next week

There were 34 members and two guests in attendance today. Jordan Teeples visited with her Grandpa Larry along with Les Reinhardt from the Aktion Club. Verle reported a can deposit of $128.90 for two collections. Marla read the Board of Directors meeting minutes from the August meeting. Linda reported that the Aktion Club received a $500 donation from the Bell Tower Festival Poker Run committee and a photo was taken with members at their meeting Monday. She also mentioned that they are planning a picnic on August 15th. Vern mentioned that we should try to get an interclub together for the Governor's visit to Nevada on September 11th.

He also announced that we will park cars for the RAM football game on Sept. 14th and that 2012 Officer Installation had been set for Wednesday, Sept. 26th during the regular club meeting. Randy gave an update on profits from the Ragbrai food stand and discussed our existing food inventory of which some will be used for Hot August Nights on Thursday, August 9th.

There were 32 members in attendance today with Lt. Governor Judy Melcher from Nevada visiting. President Heater opened the meeting by welcoming Judy. He reminded members that the Greene County Fair is Fri-Sun of this week. Sign-up sheets were passed around and workers are still needed for all days. Dan shared the results from the Skills USA National competition in Kansas City. Congratulations to Dan, Kurtis Rice, and all other students that placed from Greene County. Pat reported on the Farmer's Market grilling from Tuesday evening. We grilled 143 hamburgers for the event which was well attended.  Pat thanked all those that helped and provided cookies. OFFICIAL MINUTES 

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on July 6th, 2012.  President Tom Heater called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Verle Bennett.  Guests were Jim Gerdes, Bob Schwarzkopf and Jean Walker.

There were 35 members and one guest, Les Reinhardt from the Aktion Club in attendance today. Special occasions were shared by President-Elect Tim Christensen who presided over the meeting. Everett reported a can deposit of $93.40 from the last several weeks. Hollie reported that the Aktion Club had a meeting on Monday and are planning a membership drive at their next Spring Lake picnic. The board members present voted in favor of sponsoring the Ag Breakfast and Auction at the Greene County Fair so that funds could be paid in a timely manner.

There were 36 members in attendance today plus guest Les Reinhardt from the Aktion Club. Rod Kleitsch was inducted as a new member with Bob Schwarzkopf serving as his sponsor. Welcome Rod, we are glad that you joined our great group! Many happy dollars were shared by members. Verle reported a can deposit of $64.25. Mark reported on the Bell Tower Festival Kiwanis food stand. Vern indicated that we should clear around $3,000 from the stand proceeds. Mark should be commended for another fine job of chairing this fundraiser. Thanks Mark! Linda reported on the Aktion Club activities over the weekend. They cleaned up the beer garden,  popped popcorn, participated in the parade, and helped with the car/bike shows. They will have a meeting on Monday.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on June 1, 2012.  President Tom Heater called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present.  Guests were Jim Gerdes, Bob Schwarzkopf and Jean Walker.

There were 44 members present today plus Scott Bradley visited from the Aktion Club. Lots of happy dollars were shared and Verle reported a can deposit of $118.20. Linda reported on the Aktion Club, she stated that they sold 144 hamburgers at the Farmer's Market Tuesday evening and they had a great time at the Spring Lake picnic. They will also be doing the Beer Garden cleanup at 6:30am this Saturday morning if anyone wants to help. Mark reported on the Bell Tower Food Stand and passed around the sign-up sheet. Help is needed on both Friday and Saturday if you can assist.

There were 32 members in attendance today. Bob Schwarzkopf announced that his guest Rod Kleitsch has turned in a membership application! Lots of special occasions were shared and a few happy dollars. Linda reported on the Aktion Club popcorn sales from the Bike Festival and flag raising efforts. She also requested bars for the Farmer's Market on Tuesday, June 5th when the Aktion Club will serve the meal. Mark talked about the upcoming Bell Tower Festival food stand and passed around the sign-up sheet. Please contact Mark Bauer or attend the meeting next week to sign up for a shift as this is one of our major fundraisers for the year! Mark also announced that ABC5 will be in town starting today to shoot some promotion videos about our community to be shown in the next three months. Vern discussed the can drop location and sign. The board of directors will address this topic at their meeting on Friday morning. Randy stated that the concessions application for Ragbrai in Farnhamville has been submitted.

There were 42 members in attendance today and one guest. Bob Schwarzkopf introduced his guest Rod Kleitsch. Welcome Rod! We hope you come back again. Vern announced a can deposit of $66.65. Randy and Deb attended the Ragbrai 2012 meeting in Farnhamville. The club is planning to reserve two booths and serving  food on Tuesday, July 24th. Linda reported that the Aktion Club will be raising flags on Saturday at 9:00am and will also sell popcorn during the Iowa Bike Festival. They are also planning a picnic on May 30th at Spring Lake. Tim B. thanked workers for their help at the Construction Open House on Tuesday evening. Vern reported that donations totaled around $1,300 before expenses to support the JSHS Skills USA students during their June trip to Kansas City.

Linda reported that the Aktion Club will meet next Monday and that they had a great time at the Storm Lake Aktion Club dance. They are getting ready for the June 5th Farmer's Market and Bell Tower Festival activities. Randy will be attending a Ragbrai meeting in Farnhamville next week if anyone would like to attend. President Heater announced that Kiwanis scholarships were awarded to JSHS seniors Kelsie Hemping, Kurtis Rice, Heather Lloyd, and Lindsey Hansen on Tuesday evening. Committee meetings were held in lieu of a program today.

On May 9th, 2012 the Jefferson Kiwanis Club held their annual meeting and officer election.

There were 34 members in attendance today. Many happy dollars were shared. A can deposit of $149.85 was reported by Vern. Mark talked about plans for the Bell Tower Festival food booth. Tim B. passed around the worker sign-up sheet for the construction open house meal fundraiser for VICA students on May 22nd. Linda reported on the Aktion Club who is planning for Bell Tower Festival activities and Memorial Day flag raising. Officer elections were held for next year. Randy Monthei was chosen as President-Elect with Bob Schwarzkopf, Jim Gerdes, and Jean Walker as new board members. Congratulations and thanks to these folks for taking leadership positions!

There were 35 members present today. President-Elect Tim Christensen called the meeting to order. Several happy dollars were shared. Linda reported that the Aktion Club raised over $2,000 for Relay for Life! They also sold popcorn and took part in the bake sale. They are planning to participate in "Spring Into Greene" this weekend. Vern reported a can deposit of $56.10. It was mentioned that we will be grilling for Dean McAtee's 80th birthday party on May 2nd.

There were 41 members in attendance today and 4 guests. Three guests were quickly inducted as our newest members. Welcome to Shawna Arnold, Sean Sebourn, and Mike Wahl, we are glad to have you on the Kiwanis team! Brenda Batschelet from the Aktion Club was also a guest. Vern reported a can deposit of $63.95. A total of $131.00 was collected from members as a Skip-A-Meal program donation. Linda and Hollie reported on the very successful Aktion Club mini-conference that was held last Saturday. They thanked the club for the financial support that we provided for the event.

There were 29 members and 3 guests in attendance today. The three guests, Mike Wahl, Shawna Arnold, and Sean Sebourn will all be inducted as new members next week! Vicky reported that 147 kids participated in the Easter Egg hunt last Saturday morning. Thanks to the Kiwanians who assisted Vicky!   The board meeting minutes from last week were read my Marla. President Heater reported a can deposit of $55.10 for Vern.  Linda reported on the Aktion Club. They have 86 people from 7 clubs registered for their mini-conference this weekend.

There were 33 members present today and two guests. Welcome back to Shawna Arnold and Sean Sebourn! They have both submitted membership applications to the board. Many happy dollars were shared and special occasions announced by President Heater. Pat shared that 7 club members assisted at the Teen Maze on April 3rd and thanked Dan B. for making the judges bench used at the event. Vern reported a can deposit of $83.70. Linda reported on the Aktion Club meeting from April 2nd. They are still looking for goodie bag items for the mini-conference.

There were 32 members present today. Vern noted a can deposit of $123.00 and also reported on the interclub to the Boone Daybreakers Ham Dinner on Monday, March 26th. President Heater reported on the fundraiser at Pizza Ranch for Everett and said that Everett hopes to return to Kiwanis soon. Vern mentioned that he has blue and gray Kiwanis t-shirts in stock and ready for a quick sale! Linda reported that the Aktion Club has a meeting next Monday and that they are busy getting ready for the mini-conference. Reminders about the Teen Maze on April 3rd were also shared by Pat and Karen. There is a Teen Maze open house at the Boone County Fairgrounds on Sunday, April 1st from 4-5pm.

There were 31 members in attendance today. President Heater mentioned the interclub to Boone next Monday and the fundraiser for Everett Beebe. Vicky asked for help with the Rec. Center Easter Egg Hunt on April 7th.  Hollie reported that the Aktion Club is working on their mini-conference plans and Relay for Life. A can deposit covering the last month of $272.65 was announced by Vern. Pat gave an update on the Teen Maze, they are still in need of volunteers and cookies! Shawna Arnold visited us again today and turned in her membership application!

There was also one guest visiting our club today, perspective member Shawna Arnold from Regency Park. Welcome to Shawna and we hope you come back to visit us again! Many happy dollars were shared by members. President Heater reminded club members to sign up for the Teen Maze and also shared some thank you's that we received. Sue from the Nevada club talked about the need for Teen Maze volunteers in April. She stated that it takes about 75 people a day to operate the event. Linda shared that the Aktion Club will meet next Monday afternoon and thanked the club for their financial support of the Aktion Club upcoming regional mini-conference.

The Aktion Club met last Monday and they are getting ready for Relay for Life and the mini-conference that they are hosting. President Heater mentioned that we may need to move our can drop and sign to another spot on the Pamida property due to the overpass road construction. He will follow-up with them. Bob S. discussed interclubs to Boone on March 22nd and March 26th for the Daybreakers ham dinner. Sherry reminded members of the upcoming Spouse's Night event at JSHS beginning at 5:30pm. Hollie reported on planning for the Aktion Club conference in April. President Heater also reminded club members that there is a board meeting on Friday at the Uptown Cafe.

We are now accepting volunteers to work the MAZE!! Volunteer shifts are Monday, April 2 through Friday April 6 from 8:30-11:30 and from 11:00 to 3:00. Set up will be Sunday, April 1 starting at noon and we will have an Open House that afternoon from 4 to 5PM. There were 32 members in attendance today. President Heater called the meeting to order and shared special occasions. A can deposit report of $81.40 was heard from Dave J. The Teen Maze in Boone on April 10th (Greene County students attending) was discussed. Bob S. talked about opportunities for upcoming interclubs. Spouse's Night on March 3rd was also mentioned with 30 people signed up to attend.

A reported from the Aktion Club meeting on Monday was heard. About 30 Kiwanians including Jody Melcher and Floyd Hutzell were in attendance. The Aktion Club presented Verle Bennett a Walter Zeller Fellowship award (see e-bulletin). It was good to see Verle and his family and a great turnout from club members. It was also mentioned that the Aktion Club will host a mini-conference at Genesis on April 14th.

There were 30 members in attendance today. Special events were shared by President Heater. Twenty-six members and spouses have signed up for spouse’s night on March 3rd which is dinner and a play at JS High School.  Bob S. talked about some opportunities for interclub’s that are coming up in the next month. Hollie reminded our members of the Aktion Club meeting on Feb. 20th at 4:00pm with a special presentation to one of our members. Please plan to attend, there will be cake!!

 There were 34 members in attendance today. President Heater reminded members about the Board meeting on Friday. Hollie reported that several Aktion Club members will attend a mini-conference in Council Bluffs this weekend. She also spoke about a mini-conference on April 14th that will be held in Jefferson. She reminded club members that there will be a special presentation made to one of our club members at the Aktion Club's Feb. 20th meeting. She encouraged all members to attend this presentation. Sherry reminded members to register online for Spouse's Night. We will need more participation for the event to move forward.

There were 25 members in attendance today and two guests. Mike Wahl and Vicky Lautner both returned to visit and both have committed to becoming a member of our club! Great news, and welcome to Vicky & Mike!

President Heater mentioned a possible interclub to the Perry Kiwanis pancake feed on Feb. 25th. There was also discussion on Spouses Night (March 3rd) and the Teen Maze (April 3rd). Hollie R. reported that the Aktion Club will meet on Feb. 20th at 4:00pm and have a special award presentation during that meeting for a member of our club. She invited us all to attend. A grilling opportunity for June 23rd was also presented by Randy M.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on December 2, 2011.  President Tom Heater called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Lisa Jaskey.    Dan Taylor was a guest.

There were 29 members in attendance today. President Heater reported on the Division Council Meeting in Ames. They discussed membership and the Mid-Year conference. Clubs also shared their fundraising activities with the group. A can deposit of $29.30 was reported. Steve C. shared a happy five dollars by announcing the birth of his first grandchild! It was also noted that our own Hollie Roberts was the recipient of the ABC Award- "Above and Beyond the Call"  from the Chamber of Commerce. Congrats to Steve and Hollie! Mike P. announced that the highway 4 railroad bridge overpass project will begin on March 5th and take 7 months to complete. It was also shared that the Aktion Club beginning in February will meet on the first & third Monday's of the month.

Les Reinhardt joined us from the Aktion Club and Pastor Emmert shared the good news that the efforts in Greene County raised $6,500 for the Salvation Army! Thanks to all who served on the committee and donated time to ring the bell. President Heater reminded members of the Board Meeting on Friday and the Division Council meeting on Saturday morning in Ames. 

There were 26 members present today and one guest, Matt Bradley from the Aktion Club. Marla reported a can deposit of $46.30. There were no special occasions, but a few happy dollars were shared.

Karen Pope had the program today, She asked Jerry Roberts to speak to the club about the Odyssey of the Mind program. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program whose mission is to provide creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Jerry has been an Odyssey of the Mind coach in Grinnell and Perry. He has also served as a judge and is currently on the state board of directors. Jerry showed us a dvd video about the program and answered questions. Thanks Jerry and Karen for an interesting program!

There were 30 members in attendance today. We passed the hat for donations in appreciation of the Uptown Cafe staff who serve us throughout the year and presented the gift to them. Verle reported a can deposit of $75.70 and noted that there were 31 participants in the Genesis Tour of Lights event. A good time was had by all and treats were enjoyed at Dairy Queen. Thanks to Linda and those who drove. Vern reported that the Salvation Army Bell Ringing total so far is $5,383 with the goal being $6,000.

Linda reported that the Aktion Club had their gift exchange at their meeting Monday. They donated $100 to the Salvation Army Bell Ringing and the Hat & Mitten tree was a great success with the donations going to the school nurses and early learning center for distribution. Pat & Hollie reported that they attended a planning meeting in Boone for the April Teen Maze event. More information as the time gets closer on this event.

There were 33 members in attendance today. President Heater welcomed Lt. Governor Jody Melcher and her interclub from Nevada. Teen Maze (April 1-6,  2012) in Boone was discussed. Vern reported the Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign in the county has brought in $3,723 so far.

Vern reported a can deposit of $34.25 and read the meeting minutes from the December Kiwanis board meeting. Linda reported that the Genesis Christmas Light Tour will be on Dec. 15th at 5:30pm. Linda mentioned the Aktion Club meeting next Monday, Dec.5th at Trinity Lutheran. Also she encouraged club members to support the Aktion Club Hat/Mitten tree at the courthouse. Reminder that the Kiwanis Board will meet this Friday morning.

There were 31 members present today and one guest, Rev. Dan Emmert. Rev. Emmert is the new Greene County representative for the Salvation Army. He spoke briefly about Counter Kettles/Bell Ringing in the county that begins this weekend and thanked us for our support. His goal is to raise $6,000 with 90% of the funds coming back to needs in the county. Verle reported a can deposit of $43.90 this week.  Hollie reported on the Aktion Club soup supper which was a great success. They are gearing up for Bell Ringing and the Hat/Mitten tree event at the courthouse. Linda reported that they raised a total of $1.072.00 for the Eliminate Project.

President Heater reported on the letter of support for the Jefferson Main Street project that is being drafted. He also mentioned that Hollie, Karen, and Pat have volunteered to be our representative for the Teen Maze.

President Heater announced that Food Pantry donations will be accepted at the meetings for the next two weeks. Marla S. read the board meeting minutes from last week and Bob S. reviewed the new budget that was approved by the board of directors for the upcoming year.

 Linda S. reported on Aktion Club events. They had approximately 60 people at their dance last weekend. They have raised around $1,100 dollars so far for the Eliminate Project. She also reported that the Aktion Club will be working at Russell Park this Saturday morning at 8:00am and could use some helpers. The Aktion Club will have a soup supper after their meeting on Monday, November 21st and invited our club members to attend.

Harry reported a can deposit of $46.10. Rick reported on the Kiwanis Pancake breakfast. He thanked everyone for their help and reported over 400 people were served with an estimated $1,800 profit from the event. Great job Rick!

Linda reported on the Aktion Club happenings. They served over 250 bags of popcorn during Trick or Treat on the square. The popcorn for their events has been donated by Wells Fargo. Eight Aktion Club members assisted at the pancake breakfast and did a great job! They will be working on the yard at the Genesis home at 712 S. Elm Street Saturday morning at 8:00am if you can assist. They also will have their Eliminate fundraising dance this Sunday from 1-5pm at the Elk's Lodge. 

There were 26 members in attendance and one guest, Les Rinehart from the Aktion Club who was recently inducted as their new president. Verle announced a can deposit of $92.85. Linda reported that the Aktion Club has raised around $400 for the Eliminate Project and that Floyd Hutzell installed the new Aktion Club officers at last Monday's meeting. President Heater shared some thank you notes and reminded club members about the 39th annual pancake breakfast this weekend.

During the meeting members donated money for the Aktion Club Eliminate fundraising project. Vern F. was appointed by a vote of the membership to fill the open term on the board of directors. Rick passed around the sign-up sheet for the annual pancake breakfast.

Thanks to those who helped grill and serve. Hollie announced that Julie Blackmer received 3rd place in the international Aktion Club poster contest. Linda talked about the Aktion Club landscaping project at Head Park this Saturday at 9:00am and invited members to join in the fun. She also talked about the Aktion Club dance on Nov. 6th which is a fundraiser for the Eliminate Project. Their goal is to raise $1,000 by selling tickets and soliciting donations.

There were 34 members present today for Officer Installation. Five guests were in attendance including an interclub from Nevada and Sue Ryan from the Aktion Club. We were honored to have Lt. Gov. Jody Melcher here installing our new club officers: Tom Heater (President), Tim Christensen (President Elect), Dennis Goshon (Vice President), Marla Siruta (Secretary) and Lisa Jaskey (Treasurer). Congratulations to Past President Pat Miller on completing a very successful year as President!

There were 30 members present today. Amber Thomas was a guest from the Aktion Club. A can deposit of $61.45 was reported by Harry. President Miller reminded members of the Officer Installation next week. Hollie reported that 2 of 3 items (scrapbook & poster) that the Aktion Club submitted in the contest have advanced to the next round of judging. Aktion Club will also be hosting a dance on Nov. 6th to raise funds for Project Eliminate.

President Miller reminded club members about football game car parking Friday night and Officer Installation on Oct. 5th.

There were 31 members present today. Mindy from the Aktion Club was a guest of Linda Spearman. Reports were heard on the Aktion Club convention (see photo of Matt Bradley speaking) and the Genesis picnic.  There will be a photo opportunity next Wednesday after the meeting at Jefferson Elem. as we donate the proceeds from the Farmer's Market event to the school. Harry reported a can deposit of $126.25. Amy reminder members of the Main Street trip to Osceolaon Thursday, Sept. 22nd.

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on September 2, 2011.  President Pat Miller called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Ashley Schwander, Derrik Bauer and Jeff Lamoureaux.  Guests were Dan Taylor, Randy Monthei, Bob Schwarzkopf, Dennis Goshon, David Jaskey and Lisa Jaskey.  

There were 26 members present today, Visitors including Dean Rogers (new member next week) and Les Reinhardt from the Aktion Club. President Miller shared many special occassions and reminded members of the Board Meeting on Friday morning. Linda S. reported on the Farmer's Market grilling by the Aktion Club and thanked members for their help and donations. Harry reported a can deposit of $36.55. Hollie R. thanked members who assisted with the Quilt Show this past weekend.

There were 35 members in attendance today. Guests included an interclub from Nevada, Dean Rogers and Carol Vileta. Harry reported a can deposit of $88.60. Vern reported on the interclub to the Boone Day Breakers on Tuesday. morning. The Aktion Club will grill at the Farmer's Market next week.

Hollie reported on the Aktion Clubs trip to the NE-IA District Convention in Lincoln, NE. Fourteen Aktion Club members made the trip and had a great time! They received a certificate for the largest group attending that traveled the furthest to the conference!

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on August 5, 2011.  President Pat Miller called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except D. Bauer, Jeff Lamoureux, Ashley Schwander and Marla Siruta.  Guests present were Dennis Goshon, Dave Jaskey, Hollie Roberts, Bob Smith, Dan Taylor, and Bob Schwarzkopf.   

There were 30 members in attendance today. Final reports were heard for the County Fair and Ragbrai. The net profits are $1021.29 and $1,301.80 respectively.

There is an interclub scheduled for Nevada morning and Golden K on August 9th. 

There were 32 members in attendance today. Reports and updates were heard on Ragbrai, the County Fair, and the Aktion Club. The Aktion Club sold $145 worth of popcorn at Ragbrai in Paton and helped the city clean up afterwards. Harry reported a can deposit of $52.45.

There were 31 members in attendance today. A report was heard on the recent Aktion Club meeting. The Aktion Club received a $500 donation from the Bell Tower Festival Poker Run & Bike Show committee. A photo was taken for publicity with our own Loren Turner and Bob Smith presenting the check. Kiwanians Buenz and Monthei also served on this committee.  The Aktion Club is also preparing for Ragbrai in Paton.

A can deposit of $158.65 was reported. Verle reported on a successful Genesis picnic at Spring Lake and thanked those who helped. The Greene County Fair concession stand was discussed with workers still needed for Saturday evening and Sunday at 2:00pm. The Nevada Kiwanis Club's sweet corn and bolony feed will be held on July 22nd if there is interest in an interclub.

Harry reported a can deposit of $51.00. The County Fair concessions worker sign up was circulated. Linda reported that the Aktion Club will meet on July 11th. Verle announced that there will be a Genesis Picnic at Spring Lake on Wednesday, July 6th. Reminder that the Kiwanis Board will meet this Friday morning, July 1st.

Dan will be taking over as the Salvation Army Greene County coordinator.  Jean Walker was inducted as the newest club member. Welcome Jean and thanks to her sponsor, Deb Geisler!  Harry reported a can deposit of $91.65. RAGBRAI and the Greene County Fair booths were discussed and a worker sign-up sheet for RAGBRAI on July 26th in Churdan was circulated.

There were 39 members present today and one guest, Jean Walker.  Jean turned in her membership application today, Welcome Jean!  Reported were heard on the Bell Tower Festival stand (profit of $3,000) and Farmer's Market ($749 to be donated to the JS Schools). Thanks to all that helped with these events and to Mark Bauer for his leadership with the Bell Tower stand! Harry reported can deposits totaling $125.55. Plans were discussed for Ragbrai and the County Fair.

She reminded members about the June 7th Farmer's Market that we are serving and grilling at and also the upcoming Bell Tower Festival on June 10-12. Our food stand will operate Friday & Saturday from 3-8pm and Sunday from noon-3pm. Signup will be next Wednesday, June 8th. Ross Hansen will be celebrating his birthday in Jefferson on June 5th at the Uptown Cafe around 12:30pm. Stop by and wish Ross Happy Birthday!

Around 300 people toured the house and approximately $1,300 was donated at the free will offering.

President Miller reported that she presented four $500 scholarships Tuesday evening at JS Senior Awards Night to Nathan Carhill, Codi Derry, Michael Hoskins, and Alex McConnell.

Kiwanis recently presented scholarships to four seniors at the JSHS Senior Awards Night.

There were 36 members present today and an interclub from the Nevada Kiwanis Club.  Election of officers for 2012 was held. Harry reported a can deposit of $79.00. Congratulations to Ashley and Chad Schwander on the birth of a baby boy. President Miller mentioned flag raising and officer training in Ames on May 28th. Vern mentioned the upcoming interclub to Nevada clubs on May 17th.

There were 33 members and 3 guests in attendance today. Guests included Jordan Teeples, Oleg Zhukov, and Rossella Giovannini. President Miller sent around the sign-up sheet for the Easter Egg Hunt and Vern announced tentative Interclubing dates in May. The Senior Scholarship committee is working on applications and the Skip-A-Meal donation will take place next week.

It was announced that the Aktion Club will meet next Monday at 3:45pm and that there is a Board Meeting on May 6th. The slate of officers for the new year were approved by voice vote. No nominations were heard from the floor. The club will vote next week.

A report was heard on the Easter Egg Hunt and Aktion Club fundraising to send Matt Bradley to the Aktion Club conference. Upcoming interclubs were mentioned with the first one on Saturday, May 7th to Ames departing at 6:45am. A nomination committee report was presented by Linda Spearman. The slate includes Denny Goshon as Vice President, Lisa Jaskey as Treasurer, and Board Members candidates Tim Buenz, Dave Jaskey, and Mike Palmer. Nominations from the floor will be heard on May 4th.

The Jefferson Aktion Club will be represented at the national conference in Indianapolis, IN by Matt Bradley and Tom Duncan. It was reported that the Aktion Club raised $2,127 dollars for Relay for Life.

There were 38 members in attendance today. President Miller reported for the group of five members who worked a shift at the Teen Maze this week in Boone. The event was very successful and well attended. A report was also heard on a very successful Greene County Relay For Life event. It was good to have John Green back from a winter leave of absence.

Holle reported on the recent meeting of the Aktion Club and added that they have collected over $1,400 for Relay For Life and that they have ordered their Aktion Club t-shirts. President Miller shared special occasions and information concerning upcoming events including the Teen Maze with members. Tom Duncan updated us on recent Aktion Club activities including Spring Into Greene and Just Feed One. Rev. Daylong reported that he has been appointed as the associate pastor of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and will be leaving us in June.

President Miller asked for volunteers to help with the Division 11 Teen Maze in Boone on April 7th from 7:30-11:30am. There were 29 members present at the meeting today. President Miller mentioned upcoming special occasions and events. Hollie mentioned that the Aktion Club is busy raising funds for Relay for Life. Four grillers volunteered for the JS Coaches Clinic on Saturday, March 5th. Dean McAtee invited the club members to Business After Hours on Wednesday, March 2nd from 5-7pm to celebrate their 45th year in business.

There were only 20 members in attendance due to the blizzard. A report was heard on the Aktion Club dance that was well attended. The Ames Aktion Club also attended the dance and Pizza Ranch donated pizza (Thanks Rob!). A good time was had by all! President Miller thanked members for the great worker turnout at the Jefferson Telecom open house breakfast. We served around 1,000 people that morning. The Kiwanis Board of Directors will meet on Friday morning.

President Miller mentioned a request for assistance from the Jefferson Telecom. concerning their open house on Jan. 29th. There appears to be interest from members in supporting this project.
