Mike Palmer, City Administrator had the program today. He spoke about housing in Jefferson and showed a slide presentation of some of the properties. He talked about the success of the now expired $1.1 million dollar NSP grant which allowed the city to demolish 15 properties. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) was established for the purpose of stabilizing communities that have suffered from foreclosures and abandonment. Through the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed and abandoned homes and residential properties, the goal of the program has been realized. Mike stated in recent years that 80 undesirable structures have been torn down, which drew applause from the club members. The city council has formed a Housing Committee that will be looking at new rules and regulations for the city and will also try to continue the success of the NSP program by offering $2,000 grants toward demolition. Some property and structures will also be targeted for redevelopment and revitalization. Thanks to Mike and committee members who attended for their efforts with this important program!
