Dean Rogers had the program today. He introduced Cale Calder from Bee Mindful LLC in Scranton to speak to the club about the Bee Keeping industry. Beekeeping is the maintenance of honey bee colonies, commonly in hives, by humans. A beekeeper keeps bees in order to collect honey and other products of the hive (including beeswax, pollen, and royal jelly), to pollinate crops, or to produce bees for sale to other beekeepers. There are between 70,000-100,000 bees in each hive. Cale has about 230 hives today with a goal of 1,000 by the end of the year. The bee industry in Iowa is around a 90 million dollar business. Thanks to Dean and Cale for a very interesting program!
