Board of Director's Meeting ~ January
OFFICIAL MINUTES
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on January 4, 2013. President Tim Christensen called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. All board members were present except Amy Milligan and Marla Siruta.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
*Secretary:
A motion was made by Rick McCollom and seconded by Tim Buenz to approve the December board meeting minutes. The motion carried.
*Treasurer:
Lisa Jaskey discussed the financial report. A motion was made by Bob Schwarzkopf and seconded by Dennis Goshon to accept the Treasurer’s Report. The motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES
*Membership
October 1, 2012 the club had 55 members. The current membership stands at 55.
~Ross Hansen, Verle Bennett, Vern Foje, Karen Pope and Harry Hoffman are on Leave of Absence.
*Interclubbing
Potential interclub dates for January are the 12th and the 19th in Ames. Dates for February are the 12th and the 19th in Boone.
SPECIAL COMMITTEES
The second half of the scholarship disbursements will be made to the recipients.
Sherry and Mike are working to organize a Spouse’s Night.
OTHER BUSINESS
The Salvation Army Bell Ringing total was $7,700.00.
Kiwanis ONE DAY is April 6th. There was discussion on possibly cleaning up selected streets or washing windows for businesses on the square that day. Suggestions for a project are encouraged.
A motion was made by Mike Palmer to donate $1,000.00 to the Sierra Community Theatre for its ongoing improvements. The upgrade to a digital system will cost $135,000 and the tuck pointing needed for the exterior will cost $25,000. One-third of the costs have been raised. The motion was seconded by Denny Goshon and passed.
Tom Heater discussed the Green Leadership Training. He suggested we sponsor a member to go. Jean Walker previously planned to attend and pay her own way. A motion was made by Sherry to sponsor Jean’s registration fees. Lisa seconded the motion and it carried.
The Kiwanis District Foundation has requested a donation of $6 per member. We have a line item for this donation of $100. The $100 dollars will be sent to the District Kiwanis for our yearly donation.
Tom Heater looked into our sign at the Little League Field. It needs painted. He contacted Jan Clouse. She will paint it for $75. Dave Jaskey made a motion to have the sign painted and Jean Walker seconded the motion. The motion carried. Randy Monthei thought there may be other Kiwanis signs that need attention. He will look into that and report back to the board.
