Kiwanis Board of Directors ~ May Minutes
OFFICIAL MINUTES
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis
Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on May 6,
2011. President Pat Miller called the
meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. All board
members were present except Ashley Schwander, Derrik Bauer, Amy Milligan and
Jeff Lamoureaux. Dan Taylor and Bob
Schwarzkopf were guests.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
*Secretary:
A motion was made by Linda Spearman seconded by Sherry Palmer to approve the April board meeting minutes. The motion carried.
*Treasurer:
Vern Foje discussed the financial report and a motion was then made by Verle Bennett and seconded by Tom Heater to approve the financial report as presented. The motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES
*Membership:
October 1, 2010 The club had 51 members. The current membership also stands at 51.
*Human and Spiritual Values

Linda reminded the Board that the Aktion Club meeting is Monday at 4 p.m.
*Youth Services

*Interclubbing
Vern Foje has the interclub schedule ready. A group plans to go to the Ames Town and
Country Club on Saturday morning.
*Special Committees
Nominating committee gave their report and Dennis Goshon will run as Vice President,
Linda Jaskey as Treasurer, Tim Buenz, David Jaskey and Mike Palmer for Director positions.
The Bell Tower booth rental and sponsorship have been paid.
The scholarship committee has selected the recipients of this year’s awards. Pat Miller will attend the Awards Ceremony on May 17th to present the Kiwanis Scholarship recipients with their award.
*Other business
Vern and Eldon Cunningham will be replacing the floor in the pop can recycling area.
The scheduled helpers sign-up sheet is going well and the Board appreciates everyone’s help with the recycling and everyone’s dedication to the times they have signed up for.
Ragbrai will be meeting up in Churdan on Tuesday, July 26th. The committee is looking into the requirements for being a vendor on that day. They will be deciding whether we want to participate and what items to serve should we decide to attend.
The Early Learning Center has asked the club to help purchase a photo printer and two digital cameras as their needs for these items is becoming a necessity to keep in compliance with the new DHS regulations. Vern will get more information from Cheri Cerveny and will also relay our wishes to please choose a local vendor for the purchase of these items if Kiwanis is to assist in the purchase.
Skip-A-Meal netted $113 in our collection and Vern has sent a check to the District Office for this amount.
The line item amount for Habitat for Humanity has been sent to Gary Von Ahsen.
Vern ordered speaker gifts totaling around $500.
Pat Miller advised the club that there are some new enhanced features to the credit card we use for Kiwanis purchases. This is serviced through Home State Bank.
Dean McAtee is heading up the flag commitment we made for Memorial Day. We are in charge of keeping the grass edged around the base of each flag pole area. This has been done and we will keep it monitored as necessary.
Tim Buenz reminded the club that everyone is receiving the Kiwanis e-bulletin on a weekly basis with reminders sent periodically as events occur. If you are not receiving your e-mail, we need to know so we can either update your e-mail address or show you how to change settings so you can receive them.
A motion was made by Linda and seconded by Sherry Palmer to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:40 a.m.
