Board of Directors Meeting ~ December
OFFICIAL MINUTES
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis
Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on December 2,
2011. President Tom Heater called the
meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. All board
members were present except Lisa Jaskey.
Dan Taylor was a guest.
*Secretary:
A motion was made by Pat Miller and seconded by David
Jaskey to approve the November board meeting minutes. The motion carried.
*Treasurer:
Vern Foje discussed the financial report in Lisa’s
absence. A motion was made by Tim
Christensen and seconded by Mike Palmer to accept the Treasurer’s Report. The motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES
*Membership:
October 1, 2011 the club had 51 members. The current membership stands at 49.
Ross
Hansen is on Leave of Absence.
~Vern
Foje, Karen Pope and Verle Bennett submitted requests for leave of
absence. Dennis Goshon made a motion to
approve. Pat Miller seconded the motion
and it carried.

Amy Milligan made a motion to accept Sean Seaborn as a new member. Pat Miller seconded the motion and it
carried.

*Youth Services
Vern reported he will be giving Lisa Jaskey the
scholarship information. The second
portion of the scholarship money is typically paid in December while the
recipients are home for the holidays.
Vern will be checking to ensure all recipients are still enrolled in
college prior to disbursing their monies.
*Interclubbing
Vern
and Bob Smith are setting up the interclubbing schedule to begin after the
holidays.
*Special Committees
Audit
Committee: Pat Miller, Bob Allen and
Sherry Palmer audited the books. They did
not observe any discrepancies.
*Other
business
The
Salvation Army Bell Ringing schedule was discussed. Vern reported that our weekend will be
December 9-10th at both Ben Franklin and Fareway. We still need people to sign-up for a few
slots that are available.
In
addition to our regular line item donation to the ARC Pantry, we collected an
additional $241 which was given to the ARC pantry.
Verle
reported the Genesis Christmas Light Tour and Dairy Queen stop is being planned
for mid to late December. He will need
volunteers and will update the club at our regular meeting as to the specific
date.
Mike
Palmer told the club that his son, Alex, would be willing to help with the pop
can collection when a member cannot work their scheduled time.
Vern
made a motion to donate $750 to the Teen Maze Project. Pat Miller, Hollie Roberts and Karen Pope
will be helping with the event next year.
After some discussion, the Board agreed this is a worthwhile project and
is attended by many teens. David Jaskey
seconded the motion and it carried.
The
Board received a request from Genesis for a general donation. Vern made a motion to donate $250 to
them. Dennis Goshon seconded the
motion. MC.
David
Jaskey brought up some ideas for additional fundraisers to fill the gap with
the lower revenues of our current fundraisers.
He has some great ideas and members of the club are encouraged to come
up with some ideas of their own and bring them to the board for consideration.
The
meeting adjourned at 7:40 a.m.
