OFFICIAL MINUTES
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Junkyard Cafe on February 10, 2023. President Mike Palmer called the meeting to order at 7:00 AM. Board members in attendance were Bill Monroe, Jim Teusch, Don Van Gilder, Tim Buenz, Bill Steussy, Denny Hammen, Chad Butterfield, Chad Stevens, Sherry Palmer, Karen Shannon, Larry Teeples. Board members Bill Raney and Hollie Roberts were absent. Vern Foje was also present.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
SECRETARY
A motion was made by Monroe and seconded by Steussy to approve the board minutes as written for the January board meeting. Motion carried.
TREASURER
Foje substituted for Raney. He shared the January treasurer’s report. Butterfield made a motion to approve the reports as presented. Monroe seconded the motion. Motion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Current Membership: 30 members
Leave of Absence: Jack Fredricksen. Monroe made a motion to approve the leave of absence for Jack Fredricsen, Buenz seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Resignations: Colton Cunningham has submitted a resignation letter. A motion was made by Butterfield to approve the resignation. Seconded by Hammen. Motion carried.
New Membership: none
OLD BUSINESS
Aktion Club No report.
Chicken Dinner Meeting next Wednesday, February 15 following regular meeting. Buenz will bring a signup sheet starting the next week.
Menu for Wednesday meetings Stevens shared the proposed menu. $11 per person with a 15 plate minimum. This includes the use of the space. Hammen made a motion to proceed with the proposed menu. Monroe seconded the motion. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Open Board Member Butterfield made a recommendation to move Tim Buenz into Cunningham’s seat on the board and Schwartzkopf will fill Buenz seat through November 2023. This will be taken to the full membership for nominations and voting.
Easter Egg Hunt Hammen reported on the GCCC event to be held on April 1, 2023 3:00 p.m. (tentative time) They would like volunteers to help with the event. Teeples also shared donations being accepted for the purchase of candy.
Eyeglass Donation: In the absence of Lions in the area, discussion was had about potential places used eyeglasses can be dropped off.
RAGBRAI: Potential fundraising opportunity was discussed. More discussion to be held soon.
Upcoming Events: Bike Rodeo - Buenz shared March 22 distribution of bike helmets. Bike Rodeo penciled in for the week of May 1st 1:30-2:15, with Wednesday being the Bike to School event. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday bike rodeo)
Adjourn – The meeting was adjourned by President Palmer at 7:45 AM with a motion made by Monroe and second by Hammen. Motion carried.
