OFFICIAL MINUTES 

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on May 3, 2013.  President Tim Christensen called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except David Jaskey and Lisa Jaskey.  Vern Foje and Jodi Melcher were our guests.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

      *Secretary:

A motion was made by Bob Schwarzkopf seconded by Mike Palmer to approve the April board meeting minutes with corrections.  The motion carried.

      *Treasurer:

The financial report was reviewed and a motion was made by Tom Heater and seconded by Jean Walker to approve the financial report as presented.  The motion carried.


STANDING COMMITTEES

      *Membership:

               October 1, 2012 The club had 55 members.  The current membership stands at 56.

Ross Hansen, Verle Bennett, Shannon Black and Harry Hoffman are on leave of absence at this time. 


     *Special Committees

               Officer’s Election Committee:  Voting for new directors will take place at the regular

                              meeting on May 8th


               Scholarship Committee:  Scholarship recipients have been chosen.  Tim Christensen

will present the Kiwanis Scholarship recipients with their awards.


               Bell Tower Festival Committee:  Mark Bauer is working on the Bell Tower and will

                              make a report at the regular meeting.  Sign-up sheets will be going around soon.

           *Other business


Skip-A-Meal funds received were $103 from our collection.  Those funds were sent to Kiwanis International to be used for various projects.


Jodi Melcher discussed the Eliminate Project including goals for each club and district goals.  She asked the club to make a financial commitment.  The International goal is $474 per member.  Each club is asked to make a commitment and also pass around personal goals to each member.  Tim Christensen will pass out forms so each member can make a personal goal.  A motion was made by Tom Heater and seconded by Sherry Palmer to pledge $7,500 towards this project which includes the $5,000 already pledged. 


Three members from our club are encouraged to attend the District Convention.  Jodi Melcher is running for Vice Lt. Governor and would appreciate our support.  Voting will take place at the District Convention in Des Moines, August 9th and 10th.


Grilling for the Little League open house has been postponed until Sunday, May 5, 2013 at

2 pm.


Randy Monthei discussed Ragbrai.  We plan to set up a food stand on July 22nd.  Vern and Randy will fill out the appropriate paperwork.  More information will be provided at the regular meetings.


The club by-laws will be reviewed after the international convention.  Some changes will need to be incorporated into our clubs by-laws after changes are made during the convention.


It was discussed the Amy Milligan be removed from the signature card on the Kiwanis checking account due to her resignation.  A motion was made by Dennis Goshon and seconded by Tim Buenz to proceed with removing her name.  The motion carried.


The meeting adjourned at 7:40 a.m.
