OFFICIAL MINUTES
 
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on 1 May 2015.  President Randy Monthei called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  Deb Geisler, Denny Goshon, Tom Heater, David Jaskey, Sherry Palmer, Bob Schwarzkopf and Jean Walker were in attendance.  Dan Benitz, Kirk Hammer, Vicky Lautner, Rick McCollom and Marla Siruta were absent.  Guests were Tim Buenz, Jack Fredrickson and Vern Foje.
 
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
 
  • Secretary:
 
A motion was made by Geisler, seconded by Goshon to approve the April board meeting minutes.  All approved, none opposed.  MC
 
  • Treasurer:
 
Schwarzkopf presented the financial report.  A motion was made by Williams and seconded by Heater to approve the financial report as presented.  All approved, none opposed.  MC
 
COMMITTEE REPORTS
 
  • Membership:
 
               October 1, 2014 – 54 members.  The current membership stands at 51.
 
               Bob Allen and Dick Pound are currently on leave of absence. 
 
OLD BUSINESS
 
  • Committee Action Plans – Monthei reminded the board that the remaining action plans need to be turned in.
  • Camp OK – Dates are June 7 – 12.  The board has not received any interested participants.
  • Bike Trail Covered Rest Stop – Benitz reported that he and Dan Towers have inspected the extent of the repairs.  Jack Williams indicated the Conservation Board will repair it.  Jack will verify with them and report back to the board.
  • Elections – Members selected by the nominating committee are:
  • President Elect – Mike Palmer
  • Directors – Bob Smith, Jack Fredrickson, Loren Turner and Bill Monroe 
         Nominations from the floor will take place on May 6th.  Elections will be held May 13th during the Annual Meeting.
  • Skip-A-Meal – Collection will be on May 6th at the regular meeting
  • Eliminate – International Women’s Day Zeller Award – The award will be presented to our recipient on May 6th.
  • Kiwanis ONE Day – Renovation is complete.  Invoices for supplies will be given to Bob Schwarzkopf once they are received.
  • Scholarship Committee – The committee has selected the recipients for the Kiwanis Scholarship.  Four $500 scholarships will be presented on Award’s Night, May 12th.
  • Teen Maze – No report
 
NEW BUSINESS
 
  • Bell Tower Festival – The treasurer has paid for a reservation of two spaces.  Mark Bauer will chair the committee for the event.  Tim Buenz asked the club to pay the $100 fee for the Greene County Motorcycle Charity website.  Walker made a motion to approve the request.  Williams seconded the motion.  All approved, none opposed.  MC
  • Bell Tower Kids – Parents with children have expressed concern over the $3 charge for riding the elevator at the Bell Tower.  The Jefferson Telephone Foundation has provided grant money in the past to pay for youth to ride the elevator.  It has been suggested that benevolent groups in the community could share the cost to support the program.
