There were 29 members in attendance with Les & Mindy visiting from the Aktion Club. He was good to have Les back after his recent hip surgery! Many happy dollars were shared by members. Vern reported a can deposit of $55.50. He also announced that a meeting concerning Bell Ringing will be in the near future and that Hy-Vee may be added to the locations. There is an interclub heading to Nevada on Sunday afternoon with Vern in charge.
Next week will be the annual officer installation ceremony with breakfast starting at 6:15am and the meeting at 6:45am. There will be a board meeting at the Uptown Cafe on Friday, Oct.2 starting at 7:00am. It was announced that Jordon Teeples will be attending the Kiwanis Key Leader Camp on November 13-15 in Ogden. Hollie announced that the Aktion Club will hold their annual Halloween Costume Party/Dance on October 25th at the Elks Lodge. The deadline of October 8 is drawing near for the auction item submission, so please get donation information to your team leader and Marla.
Toni Wetrich had the program today. She asked Marla Siruta to speak to members about her job as an independent research agronomist. Marla runs the business working with her husband and two sons. Marla shared names of the many crops they have worked with over the last 6 years. They work with many of the leading companies that provide products to produce food. Many of the products they are researching will not see the consumer market for up to 10 years. She stated that one hour in the field equals 3-4 hours of documentation and paperwork. In 2014 they traveled 213,000 miles conducting research and this year the number of miles will be higher due to additional plot locations. Thanks to Marla for a very interesting and informative program!
