Kiwanis Board of Directors April Meeting Minutes
Secretary:
A motion was made by Linda Spearman to approve the March minutes with a second by Dennis Goshon and passed.
Treasurer's Report
Vern Foje discussed Administrative and Activities accounts. A motion was made by Pat Miller to approve the March financial statements and seconded by Dennis Goshon. This motion passed.
Standing Committees
Membership October 1, 2008: 47 members. Net gain or loss = 0
Human Spiritual Values: Bill Monroe reported that Kids Against Hunger prepared 72,000 plus meals and originally set a goal of 24,000. It was also mentioned that the Greene County Fire Department helped with this project.
Community Service: A motion was made by Linda Spearman to donate $250 to the Greene County Relay for Life. This was seconded by Pat Miller and carried. A request was read by Marla Siruta to support the Greene County Rec Center by placing an ad in their upcoming activities brochure. A motion was made by Vern Foje to place a $40 ad in this brochure. A second was made by Linda Spearman and carried.
Youth Service: A reminder was made by Marla Siruta regarding the Key Leadership Conference. This will be held in October this year.
A report was given by Hollie Roberts and Tom Duncan regarding the Raccoon Valley Aktion Club. The upcoming meetings are April 13th and May 11th. Everyone is invited to attend. They reported on the upcoming agenda and that election of officers will be held and asked that the current officers help with the training for the Aktion Club officers.
Vern reported the GCELC had submitted a request for $754.73 to cover the cost of rest mats purchased for the center. We currently have a line item in our budget to cover this cost, but desired board approval to pay the bill. A motion was made by Tim Christensen to pay for the mats. A second was made by Linda Spearman and the motion carried.
Vern reported that Lt. Governor Paul Domoto asked for anyone who might be available to volunteer for the Special Olympics in Ames to fill out a volunteer registration. These are available from Vern if anyone is interested. Volunteers are always needed. The date for the event is May 21 �?" 23.
Tom Heater will look into whether or not there is a need in Jefferson for the Kiwanis Club to purchase a Pediatric Trauma Kit for our Fire Department. He will report back at the May Board meeting and a decision will be made at that time.
Interclubs: Bob Smith reported that an interclub group will be going to Ames Town & Country on April 4th. He also asked that if a person who has committed to go please call the night prior to going if they cannot attend. This way an alternate can be found or others can be notified.
Special Committees: A motion was made by Bob Schwarzkopf to hold the annual meeting on May 6th at our regular weekly meeting. The nominating committee will present its list of candidates on April 22. Nominations from the floor will be taken on April 29th. A second was made by Linda Spearman and passed.
The scholarship committee members are reviewing the applications.
The Bell Tower Registration fee was discussed. Derrik will talk with Mark Bauer as to whether we need 2 or 3 spaces and report back to the board.
Other Business: Tim Christensen reported that on April 13th the Greene County Community Foundation grant winners will be announced. An application was submitted by the Sports Complex supporters. He will give us a follow-up at the May board meeting.
Vern will pay the GCDC dues of $200.
A reminder that the Military Convoy will be coming through on June 22nd.
There was discussion on whether to purchase the RedCat PA system that we have been using for the past few weeks. It was decided that at this time we do not have the money to purchase the system. Tim will return it to the manufacturer.
Vern will pay the insurance policy on the grill for $210.
Tim Buenz reported on the activity from the web site sponsors.
Vern reported that he and Beth had discussed the wall-mounted television we have here at Uptown. We may remove it so that Beth may use the space.
Tim Christensen said there were steaks left-over from the Coach's Clinic. He will contact Mark Bauer to see if he'd like to use them for Bell Tower Festival.
Bill Daylong asked the club if they would be interested in grilling at a fundraiser for a community member whose cancer has returned. A decision was made by the board that we cannot do this type of fundraising. A suggestion was made that anyone wanting to make personal donations do so.
Upcoming events are the tree planting on April 25th and Skip-A-Meal on April 29th.
