There were 27 members in attendance today. Guests were Les and Brenda from the Aktion Club. Also visiting as a guest of Tim Buenz was Wayne Phipps. Welcome to all guests! President Elect Sherry Palmer called the meeting to order in President Monthei's absence. She reminded members of the Kiwanis One Day activities on April 11th. One project being considered is working on the Bike Trail Kiwanis shelter near the river. Brenda reported that the Aktion Club met last Monday and are planning a tip night at Pizza Ranch on March 30th from 5-8pm. Everyone is invited to come visit them for supper! The upcoming officers election was discussed and a nominations committee has been appointed by President Monthei.

Don Van Gilder had the program today. He introduced Greene County conservation director Dan Towers who spoke about a variety of topics including the bike trail and the effort to pave the gravel road crossing in the county. There are 9 crossings and paving these to state standards will cost around $170,000. He also spoke about biking events like the upcoming Market to Market and Peddlers Jamboree that will be held in Jefferson. He shared information about the high weekend usage of the new Spring Lake cabins and the change to self registration for the camping areas. He mentioned that the county has around 2,000 acres that it manages including a new acquisition in the county thanks to a $229,250 grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resource’s Habitat Stamp grant program. The grant is the large portion of funding for the purchase of 160 acres of timber along the North Raccoon River in Section 30 of Washington Township, southwest of Rippey.
