She also mentioned that Julie Blackmer placed 3rd in the national Aktion Club poster contest. She received a metal and certificate from the organization. The local Aktion Club will also be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on three Saturdays.

Pat Miller had the program today. She introduced Kathy Law from the Nyemaster-Goode Law firm in Des Moines who gave a presentation titled "Wind Energy In Iowa: A Model For The Country". Kathy is also the President of the Iowa Wind Energy Association. She shared lots of information and facts about wind energy in Iowa including photos of some of the construction process. Iowa is currently raked second in the country in wind power generation behind Texas. There were 4,322 mega-watts of wind power installed in Iowa in 2011. Twenty percent of Iowa power comes from the wind which can power approximately 1.1 million homes. The industry also provides between 6-7,000 jobs in the state. Thanks to Kathy and Pat for a very interesting and informative program!
