OFFICIAL MINUTES

 The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on September 7th, 2012.  President Tom Heater called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Bob Allen and Amy Milligan.  Guests were Bob Schwarzkopf and Jean Walker.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

      *Secretary:

A motion was made by Pat Miller seconded by Rick McCollom to approve the August board meeting minutes.  The motion carried.

      *Treasurer:

Lisa Jaskey presented the financial report.  She reported that disbursements were made in response to requests to ACCESS in the amount of $100, GCMC Table Talk Luncheon for $100, J-S Activities Booster Club for $250, and to purchase school supplies for Jefferson-Scranton students in the amount of $100.  Pop can income for the month of August totaled $335.60.  A motion was made by Dennis Goshon and seconded by Mike Palmer to approve the financial report as presented.  The motion carried.

STANDING COMMITTEES

      *Membership:

               October 1, 2011 The club had 51 members.  The current membership stands at 56.

Ross Hansen and Harry Hoffman are on leave of absence at this time. 

The Board received a verbal request of resignation from Dan Taylor.  Vern Foje made a motion to accept the request with regret and Tim Christensen seconded the motion, it carried.

     *Interclubbing ~ A group will be attending the Governor’s visit in Nevada on September 11th.

     *Special Committees

               Ragbrai Committee:  Profit recorded for this event has been updated.  The net profit is ~ $1,898.31. 

               Scholarship Committee:  Scholarship monies were distributed.  Four scholarships at $500

               each is awarded.  This disbursement represents the first installment.

               Budget Committee:  The budget committee will meet sometime in September to discuss the

               budget for the 2012-2013 Kiwanis year.  The committee consists of Vern Foje, Marla Siruta,

               Pat Miller, Bob Schwarzkopf, Lisa Jaskey, Tim Christensen and Tom Heater.  Any member is

               welcome to attend and serve on this committee.

      *Other business

Donation requests were received from:

Katie Rice: request for financial support towards her trip to China and Japan with Wartburg College Music Department.  The board denied the request based on the fact that it only supports one student.  (Vern Foje, Rick McCollom, MC)

Leftover food items from our events have all been sold to members. 

Tim Christensen will see if there is any student interested in attending the Key Leader Camp in Boone October 26-29th

Lisa asked the Board if we would be interested in grilling at Deal’s Orchard this fall for their weekend events.  A motion was made by Tim Christensen to grill the days of Sunday, September 30th and Saturday, October 6th.  After some discussion, the motion was seconded by Pat Miller and the motion carried.  We will be asking for workers from the membership at the upcoming meetings in September.

Lisa discussed the Sierra Theater changes and asked the board if they would be interested in purchasing Theater Gift Cards to donate to the children of Greene County.  We can decide ourselves how to present the gift cards and who to donate them to.  A motion was made by Dennis Goshon to purchase 200 of the $5 gift cards.  David Jaskey seconded the motion and it carried. 

The Thomas Jefferson Gardens was discussed.  It was decided to table the discussion to the October Board Meeting.

A motion was made to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
