OFFICIAL MINUTES 

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on November 8, 2013.  President Dennis Goshon called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Lisa Jaskey, Dave Jaskey and Rod Kleitsch.  Vern Foje, Tom Heater and Rick McCollom were guests.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS 

·        Secretary:

A motion was made by Bob Schwarzkopf, seconded by Kirk Hammer to approve the October board meeting minutes.  All approved, none opposed.  MC 

·        Treasurer:

Bob Schwarzkopf presented the financial report.  A motion was made by Tim Christensen and seconded by Sherry Palmer to approve the financial report as presented.  All approved, none opposed.  MC

 

STANDING COMMITTEES 

·        Membership:

            October 1, 2013 The club had 54 members.  The current membership stands at 53.

Ross Hansen, Verle Bennett and Harry Hoffman are currently on leave of absence. 

 

·        Interclubbing:

N/R

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

·        41st Annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast – Rick McCollom reported that 324 people were served.  Net income is $3,170, but a few late checks have not been deposited.  Rick asked that $200 be given to the Aktion Club for their help with the breakfast.  Tim Christensen made a motion to approve Rick’s request.  Jack Williams seconded the motion.  All approved.  MC

 

·        Audit Committee:  The audit is complete and no errors were found.

 

·        Silent Auction Fundraiser:  Bob reported the auction raised $3,915. 

 

 

OTHER BUSINESS 

·        ARC Pantry Donation – We will pass a basket for monetary donations at the regular meeting on November 13th and 20th.  Canned items may also be donated.

 

·        Special Olympics Request – Vern received an e-mail from Mona Weltz asking if the club would be willing to donate $250 towards the purchase of new t-shirts for the students involved with the Special Olympics events.  Randy Monthei made a motion to approve the request.  Tim Christensen seconded the motion.  All approved.  MC

 

·        Salvation Army – Bell Ringing dates for our club will be December 13th and 14th at both Fareway and Ben Franklin.  Some additional volunteers may be needed on Thursday evenings at Fareway to assist the Aktion Club. 

 

·        Hats-Mittens-Socks-Canned Goods – A donation tree has been set up at the courthouse for donation of hats, mittens, socks and canned goods.  We have been challenged by the Rotary to see which club can donate more items.  Linda will be bringing a box to the meetings for everyone’s donations. 

 

·        Market-to-Market Relay Event – Denny received an e-mail asking if our club would be interested in organizing this event.  Marla made a motion to pass on this request.  Kirk Hammer seconded the motion.  All approved.  MC

 

·        VFW Building Renovation – The board received a request to donate to the building renovations at the VFW.  Sherry made a motion to decline the request at this time.  Kirk seconded the motion.  All approved.  MC

 

·        Thomas Jefferson Gardens – The board received a request to donate to the Thomas Jefferson Gardens project.  The request was tabled till the December board meeting.
