OFFICIAL MINUTES
 
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on 7 August 2015.  President Randy Monthei called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. Dan Benitz, Deb Geisler, Denny Goshon, David Jaskey, Vicky Lautner, Bill Monroe, Bob Schwarzkopf, Marla Siruta and Jean Walker were in attendance.  Kirk Hammer, Tom Heater, Rick McCollom, Sherry Palmer and Jack Williams were absent.  Vern Foje was a guest.  
 
OFFICERS’ REPORTS                                                                                               
  • Secretary:
A motion was made by Jaskey, seconded by Monroe to approve the July board meeting minutes.  All approved, none opposed.  MC
  • Treasurer:
Schwarzkopf presented the July financial report.  A motion was made by Geisler and seconded by Monroe to approve the financial report as presented.  All approved, none opposed.  MC
 
COMMITTEE REPORTS
 
  • Membership:
               October 1, 2014 – 54 members.  The current membership stands at 48. Dick Pound is currently on leave of absence. 
 
OLD BUSINESS
  • Peanut Sales – It was discussed that we will ask the Aktion Club whether they might be interested in doing the peanut sales as a fundraiser.  Due to conflicts with current fundraisers, the board does not wish to pursue this.
  • County Fair – Jean reported everything went well.  The few food items left over were sold to members.  Bob reported a profit of $1,535.80, which is the record high profit over the past 5 years. 
  • Kiwanis Dues Increase – Kiwanis International has raised dues.  The budget committee will discuss whether we need to raise membership dues to cover this increase. 
NEW BUSINESS
  • Farmer’s Market – Kiwanis will serve at the Farmer’s Market on August 18th.  A sign-up sheet is going around and also we are being asked to provide bars. 
  • Budget Committee – Schwarzkopf asked for volunteers to be on the Budget Committee.  Due to his absence in September, he suggested we meet in August so the budget can be decided and approved prior to October 1st.
  • Dean Rogers asked if Kiwanis would be interested in grilling for his open house on Saturday, September 5th from 11-1 pm.  He is expecting around 150-250 people. 
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 AM.
