OTHER BUSINESS

There was discussion on whether to update the signers on the checking accounts for this year as some signers are no longer on the board.  It was decided to leave the signers in place.

The Salvation Army Bell Ringing is going well.  An additional day was added to our schedule and the sign-up sheet is going around at the regular meeting.

In addition to our regular line item donation to the ARC Pantry, we collected an additional $204, making a total of $704 donated to the ARC pantry in November.

Kiwanis ONE DAY plans are being discussed.  Anyone with any ideas on how we can make a difference in the community with a project we can complete in one day.  Everyone’s participation is needed.  This is a community service project and not a fundraiser.

We received an invoice from Tronchetti’s with a new rental agreement on our storage unit.  The fee for the unit is $327 per year.

The regular meetings on December 26th and January 2nd were discussed.  Uptown Café would like us to order from the menu those days since we typically have a lower attendance.  The board decided this was a good idea and the club will pay for the breakfast’s ordered those two meetings.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.  There will be no scheduled program and the group will gather at 7:00am.

We will be collecting a donation from every member to give as a Christmas gift of appreciation to the waitress’s and staff at the Uptown Café for their continued service to the club.

A donation to the Relay for Life was discussed.  An anonymous person has offered to give up to $750 towards the Kiwanis donation in order to move our level into the categories which provide that our name is listed as major donors on the t-shirts to all participants in the event.  Sherry Palmer made a motion to donate $500 to the event.  Tom Heater seconded the motion and it carried.  This makes our level of support the highest possible.  The Kiwanis logo will be printed on the shirts and we will receive a plaque at the event in honor of our support.

Larry Thompson suggested we ask for Burma Shave signs to be posted in Greene County.  We are one of only two counties in Iowa without the official signs.  Larry approached Vern and said he would provide the posts and place them on his property if we would submit a request for the signs through Kiwanis.  The article in Our Iowa magazine prompted the interest.  Lisa made a motion, seconded by Tim Buenz to initiate the request.  The motion carried.

Sherry asked the board if there was interest in another Spouse’s Night.  Everyone agreed we should have one.  Sherry is going to begin planning the event.

Vern reminded everyone that Pearl Harbor was 71 years ago today.  Flags are to be flown at half-staff.

The meeting adjourned at 7:56 a.m.
