There were 29 members in attendance today. Many happy dollars were shared and Vern reported a can drop of $48.70 for the week. Marla presented the Lay Person Of The Year Award to Bob Schwarzkopf (see separate article). This award seeks to honor those Kiwanis members who are active in their home Kiwanis club and their religious communities. Dr. Dave discussed the upcoming Kiwanis Auction. Item descriptions are due to Marla by October 8th. The silent auction items will be on display and open for bidding at the Courthouse on October 12 through October 30. The auction will move to the Elks Lodge for the annual pancake breakfast on October 31st. President Monthei reminded members of the club board meeting this Friday at 7am.

Tom Heater had the program today. He invited Jason Stauffer from Star Energy to speak to us about Renewable Fuels. Jason is the Renewable Fuels Retail Manager for Star Energy (Manson, IA) and lives in Ogden. STAR Energy is committed to providing their customers with a wide variety of refined and renewable fuel options to meet and exceed residential, commercial, and industrial demands. They take pride in our commitment to the biofuels industry as they supply ethanol, E-85, and biodiesel. By “growing” our own fuel right here in Iowa, they create jobs, give America’s farmers another outlet for their valuable corn and soybean production, and help protect our nation’s energy security. Jason shared information about renewable fuels, speaking at an EPA hearing, and answered many questions. Thanks to Tom & Jason for a very informative program!
