OFFICIAL MINUTES

 The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on April 6, 2012.  President Tom Heater called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  All board members were present except Ashley Schwander and Sherry Palmer.  Vicky Lautner and Bob Schwarzkopf were guests.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

      *Secretary:

A motion was made by Amy Milligan seconded by Mike Palmer to approve the March board meeting minutes.  The motion carried.

     *Treasurer:

Lisa Jaskey discussed the financial report and a motion was then made by Tim Buenz and seconded by Dennis Goshon to approve the financial report as presented.  The motion carried.

STANDING COMMITTEES

      *Membership:

              October 1, 2011 The club had 51 members.  The current membership stands at 53.

Ross Hansen is on leave of absence at this time. 

The Board received a new membership application from Shawna Arnold and Sean Sebourn.  A motion was made to accept the application for Shawna by Lisa Jaskey and seconded by Dennis Goshon.  It carried.  A motion was made by Pat Miller to accept the application for Sean Sebourn, seconded by Vern Foje and it carried.

We received a request to extend Harry Hoffman’s leave of absence for an additional three months.  Pat Miller made a motion to grant the extension.  The motion was seconded by Vern Foje and it carried.

Teen Maze update:  Pat Miller reported the Teen Maze was a huge success.  Nine members helped with the maze, they were Bob Smith, Tim Christensen, Linda Spearman, Shannon Black, Karen Pope, Pat Miller, Hollie Roberts, Vicky Lautner and Ashley Schwander.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a huge success.

Lisa Jaskey received an invoice from Dan Benitz for the judge’s bench he built for the Teen Maze.  The board had previously approved $250 for the meals during this event.  Our clubs portion of the meals totaled $105.  Therefore, it was decided to pay the invoice from Dan out of the remaining portion of the original $250.  Vern made a motion, seconded by Rick McCollom and it carried. 

      *Interclubbing

              Interclub activities will be discussed at the regular meetings on Wednesday.

     *Special Committees

Nominating committee will give a report on Wednesday morning at the regular club

              meeting on April 25th.  A slate of officer’s has been selected for vote on May 9th.     

     

      *Other business

An invoice was received for the insurance policy on the grill.  Lisa will pay the premium.

Skip-A-Meal is April 18th.  A basket will be passed and your generous donations will be appreciated.  Skip-A-Meal funds are used by Kiwanis International for various projects.

Easter Egg Hunt volunteers are Sherry Palmer, Linda Spearman, Vern Foje, Bill Steussy, and Larry Teeples.

The Walter Zeller’s Mother’s Day award was discussed.  A special committee has been appointed to help with this award.  Ballots will be handed out at the regular club meeting.

Greene County Youth Softball sponsorship was discussed.  A motion was made by Amy Milligan to continue our support with a banner and also with t-shirts, which will sponsor one team, for a total of $200.  We budget $175 each year in a line item.  Rick McCollom seconded the motion for the additional $25 funds towards this sponsorship.  The motion carried. 

Tom received a request from the AFS program.  No action was taken on this request.

An example of the brochures that Tim Buenz made for placement at the Chamber and also in new resident packets was passed around. 

A motion was made by Vern and seconded by Pat Miller to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 7:50 a.m.
