OFFICIAL MINUTES

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Greene County Medical Center Education Room on November 14, 2025.  President Chad Butterfield called the meeting to order at 7:00 AM. Board members in attendance were Tim Buenz, Clancy Clawson, Teresa Hagen, Denny Hammen, Mike Palmer, Scott Peterson, Bill Raney, Chad Stevens and Jim Teusch.  Vern Foje and Bill Stuessy were also present. Board members Karen Shannon, Randy Monthei, Kathy Pittman, Loren Turner and Larry Teeples were absent.  
 
OFFICERS’ REPORTS  SECRETARY:
A motion was made by Stevens and seconded by Peterson to approve the October board minutes with adjustments. Motion carried.
 
TREASURER:
Raney shared the October Treasurer’s report. Buenz made a motion to approve the report as presented. Clawson seconded the motion. Motion carried.
 
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership Committee:  Current Membership: 33 members  Leave of Absence: Peterson made a motion to approve the 6 month leave of absence request from Hollie Roberts. Teusch seconded the motion. Motion carried. New Membership:  New Corporate Membership:  Potential New Members: Teresa Green, AAI, Home State Bank, Ryam/Ryan Nelson
 
Fundraising Committee: No report - last activity was pancake breakfast
 
Public Relations Committee:
Discussion to ensure photo opportunities are executed following a donation from the Club. Zootopia (children’s movie) is scheduled to be at Sierra Theater on Dec. 14. They would like two Kiwanis members present to hand out tickets.  Buenz has sent information to NE-IA District about the book vending machine. A sticker will be placed near the machine to denote Kiwanis part in the project. The board thanked Hamman and Buenz for their efforts in seeing the project through to completion.
 
Community Service Committee:
Midwest Mission is seeking volunteers to pack meals on November 22 with several shifts available.  Adopt a Family is coming up on Dec. 20. Foje, Hammen, Raney, and Pittmans will help. Additional help needed.  Aktion Club: Roberts requested a substitute for her leave of absence to assist with the Aktion Club. Pittman will be consulted to determine next steps. 
 
OLD BUSINESS
Stuessy provided a final Pancake Breakfast report, stating there is one outstanding bill for printing costs by the Scranton Journal. The estimated gross income is $5,418 with approximately $4,300 profit (including $343 in donations beyond ticket sales and $37 in the bike helmet jar. Hammen made a motion to pay the Aktion Club $200 for their assistance at the event. Seconded by Clawson, motion carried.
 
There are still a few time slots available for bell ringing with the Salvation Army (Sat/Sun in Dec.) Work on the shelter house at Head Park has been completed, including metal on the fascia, painted the poles, the ends and 2”x10”support beams. The City paid for the paint with one gallon left to use on the bathrooms next summer.
 
Tree Watering - The job was completed on November 13. Seven Kiwanis members provided 93 hours of labor watering 270 trees. This involved the replanting of 26 trees. An invoice for $2,000 has been presented to City Hall.
 
NEW BUSINESS
Sherry Palmer suggested that during regular meetings (Nov. 12 and 19), the Club collects food items and monetary donations for the ARC Food Pantry.
 
The audit committee is reviewing financials for the Club. Members of the audit committee are: S. Palmer, C. Butterfield, and D. Hammen
 
Bike Helmets - Buenz reported that a grant request for 98 helmets was given to the Club by Unity Point.
 
A date for Java & Juice will be determined after the new year. Butterfield reported the cost will be $3.75 per person. A motion was made by Hagen and seconded by M. Palmer to host the event. Motion carried.
