OFFICIAL MINUTES

The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Cafe on September 5, 2014.  President Dennis Goshon called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  Tim Buenz, Tim Christensen, Dennis Goshon, David Jaskey, Rod Kleitsch, Rick McCollom, Randy Monthei, Mike Palmer, Sherry Palmer, Bob Schwarzkopf, Vicky Lautner, Marla Siruta and Jack Williams were in attendance.  Kirk Hammer and Jean Walker were absent.  Tom Heater was our guest.

 

OFFICERS’ REPORTS

 

  • Secretary:

A motion was made by Jack Williams, seconded by Rick McCollom to approve the August board meeting minutes, with corrections.  All approved, none opposed.  MC

 

  • Treasurer:

Bob Schwarzkopf presented the financial report.  A motion was made by Tim Christensen and seconded by Jack Williams to approve the financial report as presented.  All approved, none opposed.  MC

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

  • Membership:

               October 1, 2013 The club had 54 members.  The current membership stands at 52.

Verle Bennett and Harry Hoffman are currently on leave of absence. 

 

NEW Member – Denny Hammen

 

A motion was made by Dave Jaskey and seconded by Rick McCollom to approve the membership.

 

LEAVE of ABSENCE – Bob Allen (September – December)

 

A motion was made by Randy and seconded by Tim Buenz to approve the leave of absence request for Bob Allen.  All approved, none opposed. 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

  • Budget Committee – The budget committee will meet in September to establish a new budget for the Kiwanis year.  Members of this committee are Bob Schwarzkopf, Denny Goshon, Randy Monthei, Sherry Palmer, Vern Foje, Marla Siruta and Vicky Lautner.

 

  • By-Laws – Bob reported on the update by-laws.  He clarified changes made and will ask approval of the membership this week.  Updated by-laws will be sent to Kiwanis International after approval.

 

  • Computer Purchase – Tim Christensen suggested the board consider purchasing a laptop computer to be kept at the Uptown Café for use during program presentations.  The board considered storage issues.  Dave Jaskey made a motion to approve the purchase if adequate storage can be obtained.  Jack Williams seconded the motion.  We will discuss whether this can be stored safely at the Uptown Café with Wayne.  The school has a used computer we can purchase at a discount.  All approved, none opposed. 

 

  • Scholarship – Bob Schwarzkopf has disbursed the 1st half of the scholarship money.

 

  • GCMC Table Talk – A request was received to sponsor or donate items for the GCMC Table Talk.  A motion was made by Tim Christensen to donate 10 movie tickets for the raffle.  Rod Kleitsch seconded the motion.  All approved, none opposed.

 

  • Silent Auction – David Jaskey reminded everyone to get their items turned into the team leaders and for the team leaders to send the information to Marla as soon as possible.  Items will be displayed in the Courthouse and taken to the Elks Club the morning of the auction.

 

  • Hot August Nights – Everyone reported this event was a great success.  Kiwanis will bill the Chamber $100 for the use of the grill.

 

  • Greene County Activities Booster Club – A donation request for $250 was received.  A motion was made by Sherry and seconded by Rick to give $250.  All approved, none opposed.

 

  • Key Leader Camp – Jack Williams made a motion to cover the $200 registration fee for a student who attends the Key Leader Camp in Boone.  Rod Kleitsch seconded the motion.  All approved, none opposed.  Larry Teeples had indicated his grand-daughter, Jordan, is interested in attending.  Denny will follow-up with Larry on the registration process.  The Key Leader Camp is open to any high-school student with an interest in attending.

 

  • Grilling for Volleyball – Sherry asked if we would be interested in grilling for the Volleyball team, their families and coaches on October 20th, the end of the season.  The board agreed to grill if needed.  The pork and beef producers are also being asked, but they may have conflicts with harvest.

 

 

A motion was made by Randy Monthei to adjourn the meeting.  Jack Williams seconded the motion.  The meeting adjourned at 7:45 AM.
