Fill a Purse for a Sister, A Bag for a Mister V2
Posted on Oct 29, 2019
We are doing this again! November is Family Violence Awareness month and we think it is an awesome opportunity to spread some hope in our community. If you have a gently used purse or backpack that you are willing to part with, consider filling it with items that those who have fled a violent situation may need. Think brush, combs, shampoo, deodorant, book, scarf, mittens, a little sweet candy, an inspirational note. This is our second year for this project, and our goal is to collect 300 purses/bags to distribute to the Women's Shelter, The Salvation Army and Saamis Immigration. Can you help us reach that goal?

November is Rotary Foundation Month
Posted by Dan Kammerer on Nov 17, 2015
The group received two short but information packed presentations, the first from Craig Elder (file photo) on the Rotary Foundation. Not only did I learn that there is a multitude of ways to donate, but also how efficient Rotary is in their fiscal responsibilities. A 92% efficiency rate in donation allocation. That is an incredible statistic - 92% of donations get to programs. Maybe Rotary can help the government out with some advice!

Rotary is 108 years old on February 23rd! What an accomplishment. A major effort in Rotary over the last 30 years has been the work on the Polio Plus program. And what a success it has been. To date, polio is 99% eradicated. The remaining countries of Pakistan and Afghanistan carry the only reported cases of polio to date. India has been polio-free for 2 years. Amazing. Rotary Fellowship at it's Finest!
Posted by Dan Kammerer on Dec 15, 2010
The four Rotary Clubs of Medicine Hat enjoyed a great evening of fellowship, entertainment and camaraderie at the South Side Events Centre December 16. A "mountain" of goodies for our adopted family through the Phoenix Safe House not too mention another generous supply of mitts, scarves and PJ's for a warm Christmas, made this the start of hopefully an annual event.

2010 "Eco-Friendly" Gift Exchange
Posted by Dan Kammerer on Dec 13, 2010
Once again expertly arranged by Sharla, the Gift Exchange remains very popular! The most sought after gift most definitely was April’s (mobile phone) and Brad was the most fortunate, he received two gifts, one being the gift that will keep on giving year after year, the coveted tea pot (outstanding example of modern ceramic giftware!). The main event was a fight for a flower vase. The undisputed light weight champion of that special vase was Coreen. |

Making a Difference...One Person, One Family at a Time
Posted by Dan Kammerer on Oct 18, 2010
President Gordon called the meeting to order and introduced our guest speaker Mary DeWolfe, Resource Development Coordinator, Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter. Mary provided an overview of the services provided by the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter including the Phoenix Safe House, Musasa House, and the Christmas Wish Book. Approximately 83% of the operating budget comes from the provincial government with the rest from grants. The 10 units are always full. There is a need to expand programs especially for Youth at Risk (those exposed to violence in the home, those trying to find their identity in the community). |
