K Kids: Learning Leadership Through Service

Our Guest Speaker was grade five student, Landon Scholly - a confident, intelligent, and polished speaker. Landon attends Connaught School, and he belongs to the Kiwanis Kids Club, in which he has been treasurer for two years.
Landon enlightened us about this program, and how funds are raised by the students involved, to support local and international projects. In the past, they have supported our local chapter of Big Brothers and Sisters, and internationally have donated funds for beds in India. Landon himself has donated $200.00 he received in lieu of birthday gifts, at his birthday party. Certainly a service oriented young man, who we hope will become a future Rotarian! Sunrisers were privileged to have four guests today: Landon Scholly - son of Les, Corinna Kay - prospective member, Carmen Hudson - prospective member, and Hugh Mitchell - a fellow Rotarian from Maple Ridge, BC, who belongs to the Coquitlam Rotary Club.
* Renee mentioned that the tickets have been printed for Viva Las Vegas, and posters are available.
* Sharla encouraged us to become familiar with the Rotary Ride For Ronald, a bike rally organized by the Olds Rotary Club. Funds will be raised for Ronald McDonald Houses.
* The Board of Directors business meeting will take place August 29th.
* New club directories are available to members, as well as receipts for club dues.
* The next Viva Las Vegas meeting will take place at 5pm tonight, at Medican.
Craig pulled the Jack of Spades, so the pot will be very desirable next meeting!
