Presentation: Bob Bourke - Executive Director Big Brothers Big Sisters Medicine Hat
- Bob has held this position for 6 months now.
- This is the 100th Anniversary of the organization, and their objective has always been to implement a wide range of mentoring programs, for the nation's youth.
- There are three forms of mentoring which are: traditional big little match, in-school mentoring, and teen mentoring.
- Bob stressed the need for mentors, and funding, as there is no government funding. He asked for $5,000.00.
- By serving as role models, mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers, and community.
Meeting Notes:
- Friday, November 15 - Earl's-5pm.
- Dictionaries are not in yet.
- Shelter Boxes are desperately needed in the Philippines, as a result of Typhoon Haiyan. This situation is critical, with the death toll presently standing at 12,000
- November is Rotary Foundation Month. President Craig was pleased to announce that 50% of our club members donate to the foundation, on a regular basis. We have 12 Paul Harris Fellows in our club.
- There are still 2 spots open for the Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, December 14, at Wal-Mart.
- The noon club has extended an invitation to our members, for a Rotary Happy Hour, November 14, at 5pm. This event will take place at the Scoreboard Lounge.
- Syl was very happy to share with us, that $10,000.00 will be donated to the Amarak Society, for a school in Bangladesh.
Ted`s ticket was drawn, but he didn`t choose the ace of spades.
