An excellent Presentation by Medicine Hat College Student Association Reps Stephanie Powers, Peer Support Co-ordinator and Michael Fritzler, Vice President Student Life on implementing Peer Support initiatives on Campus.
Stephanie and Michael outlined the Program delivered via a Drop In Centre for Students on Campus. Counsellors and Peer Supporters receive significant training to deal with or refer Students as needed. Services include health promotion and education outreach with a focus on awareness, community services referrals, Under the Rainbow (an LGBTQ Support network) all with a goal of open mindedness and acceptance. The Peers Helping Peers Program at MHC recently received an award from the provincial Students Association for their Mental Health Initiatives!
