President Jace started the meeting promptly, somewhere around 7:15am.

No guests were in attendance today, but a special presentation by one of our members, Kambi Heywood was given.  She spoke with obvious passion about a country that is very near and dear to her heart.

Kambi gave us some insight into Haiti, a country she lived in for almost 4 years as a child.  In Jan 2010, Haiti suffered an earthquake that killed between 125 - 225 thousand people; impacted 3 million people, and displaced 500,000 people.  Today there are still 300,000 people living in tents, many of which bear Rotary emblems.  In Haiti, literacy rates are <50% for adults and <80% for children.  Half of the people live below the poverty line making it the poorest nation in the wetern heisphere.

Kambi shared memories, insight into Haitian life, and pictures of her visits to schools and orphanages.  She reported that the $500 our club sent with her is going to help develop a library at a school in Haiti.  Oddly enough, libraries are a novel concept.  She left us with some wise words...."Don't let what you cannot change get in the way of what you can change".

Rotary Minute:  Bonnie announed that APRIL 14th is the Mexican Fiesta event.  Tickets are $35 each and are available now.  The venue is the Medicine Hat Lodge, and it is sure to be a great time!  Bring your silent auction items to Clare please.  PACE has arranged a raffle for a playhouse that resembles a Mexican school.

50/50 was drawn by Dan Kammerer, but sadly missed out on the $221 by missing the ace.
