Rotary International District #5360 Governor Al Bergsma and his Wife Shirley along with Assistant Governor Sharon Price and Club President Gord Wallsmith are shown here during the DG's visit to our Club November 16, 2010

AG Sharon Price introduced the District Governor - Al is a man of many accomplishments.  He was a charter member of the Spruce Grove Rotary Club, a financial/estate planning service provider, involved in rural community service as well as the Scouting movement, and his church. Al is now a member of the Rocky Mountain House Rotary Club, and soon will have been married for 40 years.

Al presented a Paul Harris Fellow (plus one) Award to member Larry Johnson.  Congratulations Larry!

Al spoke to us about the Rotary Foundation, and this year's theme, "Building Communities Bridging Continents". He explained the new changes and initiatives to take place for our district. A new strategic plan will offer support to clubs, further humanitarian service, and promote club service in communities. Club retention is an issue, an Al encouraged us to have small group informal gatherings to keep our members, as Rotarians. He also mentioned the need to get young professionals involved in Rotary. Excellent contributions have been made to Polio Plus, and the Rotary Foundation.

Polio cases have dropped significantly, and polio could be completely eradicated in 2-4 years. Rapid response is making a difference. The Foundation is now allowing districts to control their funds. BIGGER, BETTER, BOLDER, is what we strive to become!
