Mel Deydey, Principal from St. Pat’s and Robin Sykes, project leader presented information regarding the history and scope of the St. Pat’s Outdoor classroom project.

In 2011 they submitted a proposal for a nationwide award program through Majesta, they made the shortlist, however, were not successful in winning the $25,000 prize.  In spite of this and with the cooperation of the community, they decided to proceed with the project, to date they have raised all but $5,000 of the funds necessary to complete the project.

The project consists of an outdoor teaching space where children can learn in a setting where curriculum based programs can be delivered in a natural setting.  Focus will be on environmental topics, quiet spaces for individual study, group work areas, etc.  This space will provide non-traditional learning experiences for the students.

Provisions have been made to ensure that the space is designed for minimal maintenance requirements and security of the equipment and furnishings.  Construction is scheduled to start in May and will be in use for the start of school in September.

They are requesting support from the Club in the amount of $5000 in order to complete the financing.
