Presentation from Parkinson Alberta Society – Beth Metcalf.  Parkinson Alberta Society is the voice of Albertans and their families living with Parkinson disease. Their core services include supportive counseling, support groups for people with Parkinson's and their caregivers, learning resources, referrals, peer program, in-service community awareness programs and speech therapy.

Parkinson's disease is a disorder that affects nerve cells (neurons) in the part of the brain that controls muscle movement. People with Parkinsons often experience trembling, muscle rigidity, difficulty walking, and problems with balance and coordination. 1:300 people in Canada over the age of 25 will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s with the average age being 56. Medication can be very expensive and is not all covered by all health plans. Our local chapter which Beth represents is co-located with United Way on Allowance Avenue.
