Ryan Johnson and Taylor Kolasinski with the Menasha High School Key Club created a shoe drive fundraiser in February and their goal was to have 2,500 pairs of new or gently used shoes donated which will be sent to developing countries to help communities get out of poverty. The shoe donations help recipients earn money to get out of poverty and helps children go to school. This is beneficial for many countries who are less fortunate while also decreasing the number of shoes that end up in landfills by giving them a second life.

The Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club, in partnership with Northshore Bank welcomed over 4,000 attendees to the 5th Annual Fox Cities Kidz Expo held April 15th in downtown Appleton. This year's theme "A Day in Motion", was chosen to create a welcoming environment that provides a combination of recreation and education while promoting family bonding and togetherness. Our vision was that “A Day in Motion” would provide us the opportunity to promote other local businesses and family resources and give back to the community by offering a free, family-friendly event.

The annual Appleton Old Car Show and Swap Meet held on Sunday, July 17, 2022 in Pierce Park, is a car lover’s dream. Car collectors and enthusiasts at the 44th annual event, the largest free car show in the Midwest, viewed an estimated 1,000+ cars dating back to the early 1900s. There were families passing on a bit of nostalgia to their children and grandchildren, and still others just gawking at the sheer coolness of the vehicles.

Ready to retire and spend time with family, friends and his fellow Kiwanians, Appleton's health departments Kurt Eggebrecht was all set to sit back and put his feet up. Then, a global pandemic hit, and retirement plans were put on hold as it became clear that navigating COVID-19 would be a heavy burden to bear for the city. Eggebrecht, a member of the Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis Club since 2002 has been a past president, committee member, advisor, mentor and friend, so to choose serving the community vs. retirement was not a surprise to our club members.

While millions of sports enthusiasts watched the 55th annual ‘big game’ on television to mark the end of the football season, the Appleton Fox Cities Kiwanis club held a new fundraiser to add some soup to the tailgating spread. Like many clubs, our fundraisers in 2020 were either cancelled, delayed or scaled down putting in jeopardy the financial support we provide our Kiwanis programs. While the Green Bay Packers did not make it to the Super Bowl this year, our club brought the Soup-er Bowl to Wisconsin.

Submitted by Jean Long Manteufel, 2020-2021 WI-UM Kiwanis District Governor
As incoming governor of the Wisconsin-Upper Michigan Kiwanis District, I was looking for a different kind of Governor’s Project, one that we could do with all of our Kiwanis clubs. It needed to tick several boxes: - Something clubs can do when money is tight;
- Something impactful in each Kiwanis community;
- Something which serves children (of course);
- Something which affords clubs the opportunity to do service safely, while social distancing; and
- Something that is fun!

Here’s a riddle: What program, conceived and inaugurated in 2009, turned 40 this year? The answer: Old Glory Honor Flight. That’s right, this program, which offers WWII, Korean War and Viet Nam veterans a memorable, safe and rewarding tour of our nation’s capital and the monuments erected in their honor, flew its 40th mission on June 7, and arrived back at the Appleton International Airport to a tumultuous welcome home!

We have wonderful news to share! The World Health Organization’s validation survey confirmed that Mauritania has eliminated maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). Thanks to the generosity of Kiwanis members around the world, UNICEF and its partners, 36 countries have now officially declared victory over the pain and suffering of MNT. We are changing the world.

Indoor service projects in January are hard to find but our club had a chance once again this year to support the Habitat Restore.
We will be working with the Habitat Restore on a variety of projects, merchandising of the sales floor or other small items that are needed. This is a great indoor project.
