Using the electronic option afforded by our Olean Rotary Club By-laws, the Board of Directors has approved the membership applications of Patricia Gulac (sponsored by Jim Gulnac - note correction from previous edition) and Rin Wada (sponsored by Barb Lias). This notice serves to inform the club. Any member who has a question or concern about these individuals has 7 days to voice concern to our President, also per our By-laws.
Barb will likely plan a brief induction ceremony on December 6 at our special noon meeting location at Cutco. Approving the slate of officers for 2017-18 will also be on the agenda. This is an important detail as the club needs to submit a Memorandum of Understanding the District 7090 officials by December 15 to ensure our club eligibility for grant monies in the 2017 grant cycle. Mary Kay and Risa attended the mandatory training for our club's two-member training participants.

>ROTARACT Senior Luis Carpio will ride for AREA 15 (ELLICOTTVILLE, OLEAN, SALAMANCA) at the POLIO PLUS BIKE-A-THON on Saturday, Oct 22. Dave made a motion. Sandy second. Approved. MK will give individuals an opportunity to donate on a pledge sheet AND the club will make a donation. (I missed the amount and will suggest $100 or more.)
>Jody had recently brought a suggestion forward to consider a SILENT POLICEMAN for a signature project in the recent WALKABLE OLEAN makeover of Union Street. MK has a friend, Isaiah, also known as the STONE CARVER. He recently landed a commission with Fredonia State to carve an 8 foot statue in front of the Science building. He gave a VERY PRELIMINARY estimate of $13,000 to carve a 6 foot SILENT POLICEMAN in bluestone. It would take approximately 4 months and 400 to 500 hours of work. The club agreed to have him present his skill and ideas soon. MK will contact. Honorary member Jerry noted that we needed a plan to take to the city. Tom Windus & the architects should be involved. Al Bernstein, county clerk attending today, noted a possible location that would not be in the center of one of the round-abouts. I noted that Isaiah had expressed interest in carving on site.
>President Barb asked if any progress had been made in the processing of replacing our president elect. There was nothing to report.

Well then, mark your calendar and make sure you are registered to attend the District Conference 2016. This is an opportunity for you to have fun and fellowship while “doing good in the world”. Your Club can take advantage of this amazing opportunity at the District Conference by making a donation to this worthwhile event. In exchange, you will receive the equivalent meal packages which can then be given to a local food bank or church pantry in your own hometown! The cost of one meal is $.25. Olean Rotarians welcomed Sue McAley & Candy Plant to our noon meeting today. They are heading up the annual $400,000 giving campaign that directly benefits Cattaraugus County. Their annual campaign ends December 31, 2016. They have 3 fund raisers during the year that help towards achieving the annual goal. The Olean Wholesale Golf Tournament recently netted over $20K, helped by the company matching the proceeds. Volunteers for events are WELCOMED and encouraged! United Way offers a free service called "Get Connected," part of their web site. We got a sneak preview of an initiative rolling out statewide specifically to sustainably empower the low income, working poor that compromise 68% of our county population. Candy said it has been nine years since she came to Rotary. We appreciated it!
