For the month of January we haven't had speakers and have enjoyed the extra time to socialize with each other and plan for future events.  At the meeting on January 15, our President Andy Estock inducted a new member, Chris Harn, who was introduced to the Club and sponsored by Bruce Williams.  Chris is an accountant with DT Moore & Company and we look forward working with him into the future. 

Pictured also is long time member Ray Greenisen with some of our Key Club members at the January 22 meeting.  We are so blessed to have so many good people involved with our Club!

At our meeting on December 18 we celebrated the holidays.  We had a nice crowd to enjoy the great food and entertainment. Our caterer, Affordable Catering, did an outstanding job in providing us with a delicious meal and great service.  The Salem Encore Choir provided awesome holiday entertainment.  What a great group of kids!  Happy Holidays to all and a blessed New Year.  See in you 2015!

Four of the officers from Key Club joined us for the meeting to advise of the various seminars and events experienced at Fall Rally this year.  The common thread throughout the presentation was how talented our young Key Clubbers are!  It is so great to see these young adults continue to develop and give back to the community.  It sounds like they are off to a great start in obtaining a record number of service hours this school year.

Columbiana County deputy, Allan Young, attended our meeting on November 6.  He brought with him a special guest, Jesy, a beautiful german shepherd.  Jesy is a deputized officer. In addition to being a beautiful dog, she is also a great officer helping out in our County.  Deputy Allan Young provided us the background information on Jesy as well as demonstrating with her various training she has received and assistance she provides.  What an awesome program!

Andrew Gangi and Aaron Nye (Aaron pictured below) came to our Club meeting on Thursday, October 30.  They provided information on securing business technology in an age of insecurity as well as information on some risks most people don't know to consider.  It was a very informative and interesting program.

William Dawes from Fairway Mortgage joined us on October 23.  He provided some background information on the programs they offer, on the mortgage arena and some great practical and helpful information on credit, how it affects you and the best approaches to correcting credit issues. He is pictured below with Caroline and her guest Victoria King.

On October 18, both the Kiwanis Club and the Key Club joined together to clean up the public parking lot on 2nd Street. Both clubs had a great turnout and worked hard to make the lot look much better.  We removed many bags of leaves and debris and trimmed the shrubs.  What a great group effort!

Lori Scoobe, a caseworker with Caring for Kids spoke to the Club on October 16.  She explained the changes in adoption and the benefits of an open adoption. She provided information on the programs and assistance that Caring for Kids offers to all of those involved in the adoption process.

Heather Young, the director at the Salem Community Center visited our Club on October 9.  Heather shared some information on programs offered at the Center as well as the exciting upcoming changes and additions to the building.  What a great asset to the community!

Joe Shivers, Salem City School Superintendent visited the Club on October 2.  He spoke to the members about the current status of school issues as well as programs and goals.

Incoming Lieutenant Governor, Ron Lyness, attended the Club meeting on September 25, 2014.  He inducted new Board member, Caroline McDermott.  He also inducted the officer that were present:  Melanie Thirion as Past President, Caron Richey as Secretary, Melissa Boughner as President Elect and Andy Estock as the new President.  The Club thanked Melanie for a great job in her year as President.  We look forward to the new Kiwanis year with Andy as President.

Scott Cahill, a local developer, visited the Club to discuss his development efforts in the City of Salem.  He specifically provided detailed information on his Courtyard Square Mall project including general layout, the businesses currently located there, the businesses expected to locate there and his plan for the overall area.

Coach Ron Johnson, the Varsity Football Coach for Salem High School spoke to the Club on September 11, 2014.  Coach Johnson provided the Club information regarding his background and the principles by which he coaches.  He discussed the expectations for the 2014 season and the goals for the team.  He also answered questions from the Club re: various "in the news" issues regarding high school football.  We were all very impressed to hear of all of the community service projects in which the football team has been involved  and the emphasis placed on community service.

Our speaker for Thursday, September 4 was Scott Rauch, the Salem Postmaster.  Scott provided us some great information on his background in the military and with the Postal Service.  He also discussed some of the changes for the Post Office on a national level as well as information regarding our local Post Office.  It was an excellent program!
