On Thursday, June 27, 2019, Dr. Peter Apicella, Chairman of the Medical Imaging (Radiology) Department at the Salem Regional Medical Center visited Salem Kiwanis. Dr. Pete provided information to the Club about the current imaging processes and technology as well as various cancer information. He specifically provided information regarding the new 3D PET/CT imaging equipment. Salem Regional Medical Center is now offering the next-generation 3D PET/CT scanner with the fastest and highest image quality available anywhere in the nation. The new 3D PET/CT scanner will be used to diagnose cancers, monitor cancer treatment, and detect cancer recurrence. Dr. Pete shared specific examples of cancer cases and the detection abilities of the equipment.
