On Thursday, September 12, 2019, County Commissioner, Tim Weigle, and County Deputy Hartley Malone were the guest presenters at the Salem Kiwanis meeting. Commission Weigle and Deputy Malone first spoke to the Club about the new drone and its functionality. Flight training is required and multiple deputies are obtaining the necessary training and taking the required tests. After educating the Club Members about the drone, the group went outside into the parking lot. Deputy Malone showed the Members how the drone was put into flight and what the picture was on the control screen. Commissioner Tim Weigle demonstrated various functions. Once the drone was in the air, Kiwanis Club Member, Mark L'Italien, was given the opportunity to fly the drone. The information provided and demonstration for the Club were outstanding. We are lucky to have this option in our community and the wonderful people who do what needs done to make it happen. The pictures below show from left to right: The drone on the ground; the drone in the air; Deputy Malone starting the flight with Commissioner Weigle looking on; Deputy Malone and Commissioner Weigle showing Kiwanis Member, Mark L'Italien, how to fly the drone and Kiwanis Member, Lee Althouse, looking at the controls while Mark L'Italien flies the drone.
