Guest Speaker: District Governor, Peter Neufeldt. Peter spoke about some of the challenges that faces Rotary. One of our biggest challenges is getting new members and retaining the members that we currently have. Some of his ideas were to make sure members are engaged and to get new members involved as soon as possible. Invite people we know to come to our meetings to see what Rotary is all about. Ask people to volunteer with an event we are putting on so they can see what we do first hand. This all should be done without pressuring these people to joint Rotary. Let’s build a relationship first and then see if they want to join our club. Our new theme for this year is building Peace Though Rotary. Steve Gallagher thanked Peter for coming to visit us.

Homeowners have to pay full property taxes immediately even though they might not have any city services like, bus service, Community clubs etc. for two or more years. In addition to the Breakfast that Agape provides on Saturday mornings they are also teaching the kids Respect, Hygiene and provide them with washrooms. The washrooms have a separate area for boys and girls. The improvements that can be seen in the kid’s lives is encouraging and Agape is hoping to offer more in the future. Some things being considered are Food Banks and reducing poverty by teaching women skills so they have means of supporting their families. If anyone wants to donate things like travel size toothpaste, shampoo etc. or eyeglasses. Please contact Pat O’Connor via e-mail and he could put you in contact with Will. Or you could bring donations to the Rotary meeting.
Jarrett thanked Will for taking the time to come and make his presentation to us.

The weekly accumulator draw this week was for $152. Pat O’Connor drew the Queen of Clubs.
Guest Speaker: Rob Riopel, District Governor. Rob was introduced by Joanne Gordon. Rob spoke about the power of Rotary and gave some examples like wells in Africa so women do not have to walk three miles for water. In Sri Lanka were the rebels agreed to stop fighting for three days so Polio vaccinations could be given to the children. He also spoke about what RI president had to say. For Rotary to stay relative we need to start thinking outside the box. Each club needs to keep their members engaged. We need to be more vocal about what Rotary does and what rotary stands for. If a member leaves we should find out why and what in their opinion we can do to better meet the needs of our members. Steve Gallagher thanked Rob for taking the time to come visit us.
