Our Meeting will acknowledge our Half Marathon & 5Km Sponsors
 Our President, Steve Gallagher, opened the meeting with the singing of O’ Canada and the Rotary grace.
 We were pleased to welcome Joanne Gordon.
Announcements.
  • On May 8th our meeting will acknowledge our Half Marathon and 5 Km run
  • Sponsors. We ask that all members mark this date on their calendar and plan to attend this meeting. If you plan on attending you will have to notify Martin Coward by noon on Wednesday May 3, 2017.
  • On May 1, 2017 your board approved a donation to the Bruce Oake Foundation for $1,000. At our meeting in February when Scot Oake spoke we collected $450, it was decided to increase this to $1000.
  • This year we will be sponsoring Divjyot Grewal for the 2017 Rotary Adventure in Citizenship Program in Ottawa.
  • We will also be sponsoring a two person team from Fort Richmond Collegiate for MUNA. The students who we will be sponsoring are Mirha Zohair and Jordyn Lafreniere.
  • District 5550 Conference will be held in Kenora May 25 – 28, 2017.Registriation is available on the website.
  • Teddy Bear picnic will be held on Sunday May 28, 2017. Volunteers will be needed.
  • R.I. Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia June 10 – 16, 2017. Registration is now available through the RI website.
  • Our Half Marathon and 5 KM race will take place on Sunday September 17, 2017.

  Up Coming Events
We are sad to advise that Don Killeen passed away. Diane Merker, Don’s partner was a member of Fort Garry Rotary for several Years. She served as Executive Secretary for a few years and Diane was also on the board of Rotary Villa. On Saturday May 6, 2017 from 1PM to 3PM there will be a celebration of life for Don at the Qualico Centre in Assiniboine Park.
Teddy Bear Picnic will be held on May 28, 2017. Volunteer opportunities will be available. Information on how to volunteer should be available to our members by weeks end. Some volunteers will also be needed for Saturday for setup and for making the pancake batter.
Our Meeting on May 8th will be a thank you meeting for the sponsors of our Half Marathon and 5 Km run. We will invite the sponsors to come to our lunch on May 8th and we will do a short presentation about Rotary and the sponsorships that the half Marathon and 5 KM run allows us to do. We are hopeful that all of our club members will note this date and plan on attending. Those planning on attending must notify Martin Coward by Noon on Wednesday May 3rd because we need to give the hotel a firm number of people attending Wednesday afternoon. Everyone needs to let me know even the members who attend every weekly meeting.
