After a quiet winter season, the Saamis Rotary Club is gearing up for its annual community service, fund raising and fellowship activities.

The winner of the 2013 Harley raffle was Rena Robinson of Medicine Hat. Congratulations Rena and thank you to all who supported the Saamis Rotary Club by buying tickets. 

Ticket sales for the 2013 Harley motor bike raffle are going well and there is just one month to go before the big draw on December 28 at the Harley Store. Tickets at 1 for $50 or 3 for $100 can be obtained from any Saamis member or by calling the call centre on 403 504-0707.

Ticket sales for the 13th annual Harley Raffle have now begun with the main prize being a 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide bike retail value $28560. 

The two winners of gift cards totalling $1000 each were local residents Monique Pringle and Bob Lentz. Congratulations to the two lucky winners and the Saamis Rotary Club would like to thank all who purchased tickets enabling the club to donate $5000 to the Community Foundation towards flood relief.

After invitations spanning 30 years by Saamis member, Ralph Richardson, local artist/sculptor Jim Marshall was inducted as a member of the Saamis Rotary Club on July 4, 2013. He has often said that his start in the brick mural field was when the Saamis Rotary Club commissioned him to develop the mural at City Hall depicting the legend of how Medicine Hat was named.

Saamis Rotary members now have tickets for the Cheer-for-Year raffle - the third one the club has conducted. Proceeds with go to the Community Foundation's Flood Relief fund. Tickets are $20 each and the winner will receive $2000 in gift cards from Superstore's Liquor Store.

Several members of the Saamis Rotary Club were present at the Harley Shop on January 10, when Barry Mildenberger and his wife, Linda, were presented with the grand prize of the 2013 motor bike. When asked what he would do with the bike, he said "We have lots of toys and I'm not sure we could do this as well."

President, Grahame Kimberley, recently presented a cheque for $3000 to Warren Seifert of Consul, Sk who leads a group that constructs houses in Baja California, Mexico.

The first Early Bird draw for the 2012 Harley Raffle was held October 28 at the Home and Leisure Show. The winning ticket - held by Ken Muir of Medicine Hat - was drawn by Lindsay Perry of Tone Fitness and Dance.

Saamis Rotary Club's popular annual Harley bike raffle kicked off at the recent Toy Fund bike ride and bbq.

Saamis Rotary conducted its 4th E-waste roundup on May 12 and once again the residents of Medicine Hat responded in force with over 80 tonnes of electronic waste.

Garth Brooks will be live in Calgary on July 12, 2012 for the Calgary Stampede's 100th Anniversary.  Two tickets are being auctioned off and all proceeds will go to the Saamis Rotary Club

Saamis Rotary Club is sponsoring the 4th E-Waste Roundup at the old Wal-Mart parking lot on May 12, 2012. This highly successful and popular event diverts over 100 tonnes of electronic waste from the landfill each year for recycling.

On Friday April 20, the Saamis Rotary Club celebrated 35 years of service and recognized four members who were original charter members still active in the club.

The Saamis Rotary Club has won the Premier's Award for Excellence in the development of the Saamis Rotary park which is accessible to children of all abilities. 

The third and final Early Bird Draw for the 2011 Harley Raffle was held at Canadian Tire on November 27, 2011

The second Harley Raffle early bird draw was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday November 6 at the Home and Leisure Show.

The 11th annual Saamis Rotary Harley Bike raffle kicked off with the Santa Claus Toy Fund bike run on September 10, 2011.

On September 15, Robert Renner was inducted as the first honorary member of the Saamis Club.

The Saamis Rotary Club's third annual e-waste roundup - in conjunction with many partners - has been hailed as another extraordinary success.

The activities of the Saamis Rotary Club within this community and internationally were recognized by the award of a certificate at the recent District Conference in Red Deer.

There is no Rotary International theme for the month of May as the focus is on all Rotary programs and activities at the International Convention - this year in New Orleans.

The month of April marks 34 years of continuous service by the Saamis Rotary Club to the community and internationally.

On January 10 2013, the Saamis Rotary Club recognized 12 years of support from Ivan and Wendy Karster of the Medicine Hat Harley Davison Shop. The level of support that Ivan and Wendy have provided - including help choosing popular, affordable bikes, selling tickets and moving the bike to ticket sales locations - has been a major contribution to the ongoing success of the raffle and to the Club's ability to continue making a difference to communities.

The second early bird draw was held at 4.00 on December 1 at the Canadian Tire store. The winner - John Kohut - of Drumheller - won $500 in Canadian Tire gift cards. The draw was made by Adam Turnbull, a store manager.

President Grahame Kimberley presented a cheque for $5000 to Joey Gentile the Principal of Southview Community School to assist with the attendance of 5 pupils at a science competition in Tennessee in May 2012.

All four clubs met Thursday night to welcome the new four presidents from left to right Grahamme Kimberley (Saamis), Jace Anderson (Sunrise), Melanie Harty (Pace) and Doug Fleming (Medicine Hat). 

Saamis Rotary has contributed $7500 towards the purchase of a recycling trailer for REDI Enterprises.

The Saamis Rotary Club recently made donations to projects locally, nationally and internationally.

The 10th anniversary Harley prize was drawn on December 31 2010 at the Harley shop by Medicine Hat Mayor, Norm Boucher.

The second Harley early bird prize was drawn on November 30. It was drawn by Rick O'Neill an employee of Spa-tacular, the supplier of the pool table package. 

The first early bird draw for the 2010 Harley Raffle was held at 4.00 p.m. on October 31 at the Medicine Hat Mall. Two tickets for prizes of $500 each were drawn by Jackie - an employee of the Mall.

 

On Thursday, October 21, Rotary District 5360 Governor, Al Bergsma performed the sod-turning ceremony initiating the final stages of the park with the construction of washrooms and a splash park.

Quentin Brehmer, a Saamis Rotary Club "senior statesman" of 34 years, was honoured for his many years of service to the community at the first annual "Seniors of Distinction" Award.

The Saamis Rotary Club's popular annual Harley Motor Bike Raffle is now in the home stretch with the final draw taking place on December 31 at the Harley Shop.

On Saturday, September 11, Members of the Saamis Rotary Club again assisted the Santa Claus Fund Toy Run by cooking burgers and ensuring that the large number of participants moved along the food line efficiently and quickly.

President Phyllis presented a cheque in the sum of $7409 to Mike Christie of the Medicine Hat and District Community Foundation at the Club meeting on Thursday, September 9.

Members of the Saamis Rotary Club are contributing volunteers and funds towards the snack program at Southview Community School each Thursday commencing September 9.

The Saamis Rotary Club is funding a scholarship for one student in the Environmental Reclamation Diploma program at the Medicine Hat College.

International Rotary membership

This very successful fund raiser has now wound up and a net $7409 will be donated to the flood relief campaign.

Phyllis chaired her first meeting as President on July 8 and is off to a running start. The Club approved a new scholarship at the Medicine Hat College and has agreed to support the PACE Rotary Club's Movies at Kin Coulee in August.

The Saamis Rotary Club held it's 2nd E-Waste Round up on May 15 at the old Wal-Mart parking lot.

Members of the Saamis Rotary Club met for their annual Fireside on June 24.

President Denis and Rotarian Gerry McCulley, accompanied by his wife Donna, attended the Rotary International Convention in Montreal, Quebec.

Saamis Rotary Club participated with the other three Rotary Clubs in Medicine Hat in the first interclub changeover dinner and ceremony on June 28.
