We had our first membership drive and bourbon tasting at the McNees Wallace Offices on their top floor. It was a major success! Thank you to all members who came and to all prospective members who enjoyed some light refreshments and some delicious bourbon. We added 5 new members to the roster! Look forward to doing this event semi-annually.

The Judson Fellowship, named in memory of the late Rotarian John J. Judson, MD, aims to cultivate a membership that reflects the diversity of the Harrisburg community we are dedicated to serving. This annual Fellowship awards the selected candidate a club membership at no charge for one year. Nominations should be submitted for individuals who are not yet members but have the potential to sustain their club membership beyond the end of the Fellowship year. The nomination process requires each proposed fellow to fill out the application for review by the board of directors. A letter of recommendation by the proposing Rotarian is welcome but not necessary. The selection of the Judson Fellow takes place during the June Board meeting, and their membership commences with the start of the Rotary year on July 1st.
Congratulations to the 2023 - 2024 Judson Fellowship Awardees Samara Scott Beahive Affordable Housing Outreach, Inc. Nzenalu Obinelo Vista Autisim Services, Inc.

Have you recently given any thought to how our school children get to school these days? Walk about a mile? Ride their bike? School bus? Most often their trip to school doesn’t take some 90 minutes…an hour and a half walking. Yet, in a country where there is no free public school system, few paved roads, and risks of child trafficking and sexual violence, the accessibility of a school bus can make all the difference. An important initiative called Hop on the Bus aims to provide Liberian school children with safe and shorter tips to get a critically valuable education.

Rotary International celebrated its 100th year of service in 2005. That year RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar asked every Rotary club to mark the occasion in a distinct way. The Rotary Club of Harrisburg (RCH) planning team chose to design the Youth Community Development Team as not just a one-year event but a commitment to serve youth and our community in perpetuity.

The Peace Garden is a tranquil garden along the Susquehanna River two blocks north of the Governor’s residence at Maclay Street. This reflective stretch of fauna and sculptures is the result of nearly 30 years of collaboration between the city of Harrisburg and the Harrisburg-Hershey chapter of the international Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR).

An international commitment theme of Rotarians around the world is Service Above Self. These three simple words guide Rotary International members everywhere to serving others. Since 1911 members of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg (RCH) have taken the service commitment to heart. Starting in 1977 particularly active members have been recognized by their fellow club members with the Community Service Award.
