President Matt Staub and Past District Governor Janice Black present the 2022 Hanson Award to Wendell Hoover

Past District Governor and Past President Janice Black spoke to the Club about the life and impact of Past President Robert Hanson. The annual Hanson Award was presented to Rotarian Wendell Hoover.

Black noted, “Bob Hanson loved Rotary; he said it was his favorite organization. Bob wanted people in Rotary to grow into leadership and in their creative thinking and planning for Rotary. He started the Hanson lunch, which is an opportunity for those in leadership in the Rotary Club of Harrisburg to gather over a meal and share thoughts and ideas. Bob Hanson also agreed to the Hanson award, which is given to an outstanding Club member annually.

Black presented a clock to Wendell, and he also will be given a stipend to use towards a trip to a Rotary International Conference.

Wendell Hoover thanked Rotarians, his personal assistant, and his coworkers who were present at the meeting. He thanked his parents, and his wife and children, who were present in the meeting. Wendell said, “his parents modeled business ownership to him, as well as the importance of doing things behind the scenes.”  He said he enjoys Rotary, because he is always greeted by positive, friendly people.

Wendell has been actively engaged in the Club’s dictionary project, Youth Exchange, yearly science award, and the Central Penn Food Bank projects.

Wendell closed his acceptance speech saying “We are all called to give of our time, and of our resources. We have done well, but there is always more that we can do.”

Attending the Hanson award ceremony was Hoover’s family and member Peggy Grove, his Club sponsor to membership.
