Please bring family and friends for this exclusive opportunity for the family of Rotary. Bio of Lonnie Powel Drumming has been my personal journey in recovery, joy and personal growth over several years. Including ongoing workshops with The Sarah Steele Wellness facility and various organizations. Sharing the gift of Rhythmic vibration and personal stories Facilitating workshops at Whitehorse Correction Center for inmates with mentorship from the late great Bill Stewart (clinical addictions phycologist) allowed my discovery of the powerful impact drumming has as a unifying, healing instrument for people of all ages, races colors and creeds. Drumming and unity, sharing rhythms with others, allows immediate intimate interactions in a simple, positive and playful manner. It is truly an honor to share Rhythms to all those beautiful soul’s willing to participate in a timeless tool of community connection and joy. Looking forward to connecting with you all in Circles of Rhythm. As a special bonus, locally famous musician, Dave Haddock, will be joining us on Wednesday night for some beat! How cool is this? A big Rotary thanks --- for hands on service above selfHello Rotary colleagues-- just a short update and a few pics. We had 8 volunteers at Habitat for Humanity on Saturday (May 30th) at the single moms' 4 plex in Whistle Bend (lots of painting done and more to do another day) 15 Rotarians and volunteers (Mike L will know if more) at the community cleanup on June 6th along 2nd Ave. including several from the satellite club led by Reba plus her friends. And on Sunday, June 7th we raised over $525 for the BC and Yukon Kidney walk and were the 4th placed team here-- thanks to generous Rotarians and friends (our initial goal of $250 was quickly achieved thanks to club member generosity and then a mysterious new goal of $500 magically appeared and more generous donations from Rotarians and friends of Rotary). If you are out walking/ golfing /kayaking whatever in the next few days or not, and wish to contribute to our team (plus get a tax receipt for donations of $20 or more) please go to Kidneywalk.ca , select Region BC and Yukon, select Whitehorse and our team Rendezvous Rotary Club. Thanks everyone as you have demonstrated service above self in many ways these past days -- community service, outreach and assisting/supporting others. Cheers, Lois ( We can look forward to more painting at Habitat for Humanity plus our annual Yukon Wildlife Preserve work day and I'm sure other worthy events). Good Day to you all and congratulations fellow Rotarians.) Some of the Rotary Community Cleanup crew (missing Lynne, Peter, Francis & Ken) Community Cleanup Crew at work on Second Avenue |

Rendezvous Rotary Club Supports FASSYYukon Club Buys Van for FASSY The Whitehorse Rendezvous Rotary Club recently helped FASSY (Fetal Alcohol SyndromeSociety of Yukon) realize the goal of having a van to transport its clients to events, to help them move house and to serve staff on FASSY business. FASSY’s mission statement explains that this not for profit society is dedicated “to fostering informed, inclusive and nurturing communities that work together to prevent FASD and to support individuals affected by [it}”. FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorder)is a term that describes the many varied effects that result from prenatal alcohol exposure. These effects range from impacts on physical characteristics and health problems as well as to brain changes that can affect memory, the processing of information and expressing oneself and result in behavioural challenges. The clients were delighted to receive the van. Rendezvous Rotary was also largely responsible for preparing, cooking and serving FASSY’s Annual Christmas dinner and has supported FASSY’s “out and about” program by contributing funds to purchase crafts and to promote activities such as going to the movies or outdoor adventures. |

Update from Rotary 5010 Global Peace and Conflict Scholar Allison Furniss- August 2018Hi Rotary Family! I’ve just returned to Cape Town after 2 months interning with the Resident Coordinators Office at the United Nations Namibia office in Windhoek during my university winter break. It was an incredible experience! The Resident Coordinators Office (RCO) is the top UN office in Namibia that coordinates all UN operations across the country and works closely with governments. Its housed with the UN Development Program (UNDP) office. My work involved a lot of research and data analysis on development priorities, focus areas and development sectors across the country. I had the opportunity to do work analyzing and collecting data on which development sectors each foreign government (from literally every corner of the globe!) were investing in, and where gaps and shortfalls exist. |

Update from Rotary ScholarGreetings from Cape Town! Well, second semester has just begun at UCT (University of Cape Town) and I thought it time to send a brief update on my studies and time here in South Africa. First semester wrapped up in July and then we had about a months break. My studies in first semester went really well and I really enjoyed my courses! I transferred into the Justice and Transformation program, from straight Politics, which is still in the Politics department but slightly more specialized in post-conflict peace building with a focus on human rights and reconciliation. I was definitely ready for the break in July! |

Eastern Russian Cooperative Wheelchair Project was completed in November, 2012.We are very pleased to report that the Eastern Russian Cooperative Wheelchair Project was completed in November, 2012.
Thanks to all of you this project was very successful and an excellent example of what can be accomplished by Rotarians working together. Ultimately thirteen (13) Russian clubs and eleven (11) Alaskan/Canadian clubs contributed to the project. This project distributed 280 wheelchairs to needy recipients, which greatly improved their lives and those of their caregivers. This project has taken several years to come to fruition, and has had several challenges. Thanks to the able leadership of Mikhail Kunitsyn (Novosibirsk Initiative RC) and Christiana Flessner (Executive Director of the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation) all of the challenges have been overcome, and the project brought to a very successful conclusion.
The attached article by Mikhail Kunitsyn explains what happened with the project and illustrates the problems that were overcome. As a further aid to the reader I have also written a short summary of the project history. The second attachment is a copy of the article that we are submitting to the District 5010 newsletter.
