Yerington Food BankSMITH VALLEY ROTARY CLUB SUPPORTS THE YERINGTON FOOD KITCHEN The members of the Smith Valley Rotary Club were given an opportunity through a matching grant from their District to support the food bank. Money’s became available through our Covid grant process producing $1000 between District 5190 and funds from Smith Valley. Members of the club added an additional $900 out of their own generosity. It was gratifying to see donations go directly from money to food for those that need it in one day. |

Fun Days CancelationROTARY CLUB OF SMITH VALLEY FUN DAYS EVENT CANCELLATION Dear Rotary Supporters, It is with great regret that I am announcing the cancelation of our Fun Day’s events scheduled for October 3rd and 4th. This is a COVID 19 related issue. Many months of planning to make this a safe event working with our Club Members and the board of health was nullified by circumstances beyond our control and after much discussion within our membership we came to the difficult conclusion that attempting to carry this forward was not a realistic option. As with all charitable organizations, our events enable our programs to go forward. Though this is the 3rd major fund raiser to be canceled this year we will continue to move forward to support the people, and especially the youth of Smith Valley but we will need your help. Currently our events, along with the community and our membership’s generosity support:
Our club is doing its best to come up with new and inventive events and projects to help fill in the void left by our fund raisers, but we are also asking for any support that the community would be able to offer. These are trying times for us all. We thank you for any support you may provide us. Sincerely, Doug Williamson President Rotary Club of Smith Valley Post Office Box 357 Wellington, Nevada 89444 925-812-6189 |

Coronavirus ImpactMarch 26, 2020 As with everything around the world today, our Smith Valley Rotary Club is being heavily impacted by the Novel Coronavirus. We have canceled club meetings, our Easter Egg Hunt and Board Meetings for now and are evaluating our plans going forward on a week to week basis. Planning for our future events including our May Spring Barbeque and Memorial Day cleanup, August Lamb Feed, and Fundays events will go forward though flexibility may be required. Things will return to normal and our life routines will begin again as soon as they may. Our Rotary Club will remain vibrant. Let’s hold our families, our friends and neighbors and our struggling local business' close in our thoughts and help whenever we can. Sincerely, Smith Valley Rotary |

SPRING STEAK BBQ AND DANCEOUR ROTARY CLUB OF SMITH VALLEY BBQ AND DANCE If you missed our BBQ and dance you missed out. This was an event where our Valley showed up to have a good time! And they did! This was the first time to hold this event and our club wants to thank everyone that showed up and gave very generously. One of the themes of the event, other than fun, was to remind people that the money that comes into Rotary comes back to the community in so many ways. People really enjoyed the music. Monique De Haviland's Moz Motley Blues Band served up some real favorites from Hank to ZZ Top. How good were they.......we couldn't get people to leave! Fun stuff. Bill Bolin himself handling the steak cooking. Bill owned our very own Heyday for many years and knows how to get the job done. Our menu included choice sirloin, twice baked potatoes, salad, and Norma's famous pies, good wines for each table, and our bar. |

Jason and Kim Guinasso with Sheriff Al McNeal - AWAKENA program was presented by AWAKEN on sex trafficking in Nevada Jason and Kim Guinasso were introduced to our Smith Valley Rotary members by Sheriff Al McNeil. AWAKEN is a Christian non-profit organization serving Northern Nevada. Their mission is to increase awareness and education surrounding the issue of commercial sexual exploitation and to provide housing and restoration for the victims. Half of the women surveyed in in Nevada's legal brothels reported being trafficked into Nevada from elsewhere. Legal prostitution increases the rate of sex trafficking. |

Pine NeedlersOur Rotary Club of Smith Valley welcomed the Pine Needlers Quilt Guild Pine Needlers Cathy Eckart and Denise Diaz were our guests at our club meeting on 2/18/18. Pine Needlers is a group of 45 women that meet as a secular, apolitical, social group to make quilts. They brought a number of examples and each one was a beautiful work of art. To them their passion for needlework and quilting is much more than just a hobby, it is a passion that brings a special group of people together to bond and build lasting friendships. Their work is given to a number of charities that support children in need, veterans groups and those that may be troubled in our community as a gift of love and comfort. As a Rotary Club we are thrilled to have had them offer to help support our annual Fun Days event with a display of their beautiful work. The Rotary Club of Smith Valley would like to thank Cathy and Denise, and as always the Heyday Inn. |

Assemblywoman Dr. Robin TitusThe Rotary Club of Smith Valley Welcomes Assemblywoman Dr. Robin Titus Our Rotary Club was honored to have Dr. Robin Titus, our District Assemblywoman as well as many folks physician, speak at our August 18th Rotary Meeting. Dr. Titus' family ties in Smith Valley go back to the 1880's. Robin is married to Allen Veil who is a past Sheriff of Lyon County. Their connection with our community runs very deep. A self described social independent and fiscal conservative she completed a very busy Assembly session that included consideration of 1111 bills that were presented. 649 were passed. Several were specific to water issues in the Great Basin that impacts water and water rights for much of Nevada and has been an issue of major impact as far back as people have settled in Nevada. The new Walker River State Park requires funding and work to ensure that land turned over to the State is brought back to natural vegetation after having been used as ranch land. There are many issues involved and much work to be done. The Rotary Club of Smith Valley thanks our Assemblywoman and Physician for spending time with us and for what she has given to our community. |
