Donation to WhalersRC Goolwa donated $500 of non-perishable goods to Whalers Peninsula Community Association.

Domestic Violence Safe PhonesThe Rotary Club of Goolwa, in consultation with the Centre Management, has installed a collection box for old usable mobile phones. It is secured next to the Rotary Notice Board. A company DV Safe Phone in Qld reinvents these phones to be safe to donate to Women, Men and Children in Domestic Violence situations. A second collection box is held in The Haven in the Council Library. We have already collected 30 phones. Please donate to this worthy cause and you may save a life.  RC Goolwa members President Jan, Secretary Noeline, Di, Bronnie, Ingrid, Director Club Services Sue and Treasurer Lyn at the Goolwa Shopping Centre where one of the DV Safe Phone drop off points is located (next to RC Goolwa Noticeboard).

Meeting 1608PRESENTATION BY MERRILYN RUSSELL, PHF on Interplast Merrilyn gave us a very informative talk about the history and role of Rotary in Interplast, a plastic and reconstructive surgery initiative established by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons with Rotary. Interplast surgical team volunteers have conducted over 27,000 surgeries in 17 countries in addition to training 8,000+ surgical team members. Following the presentation, David McDonald presented Merrilyn with a cheque for $500 on behalf of the International Committee of the RC of Goolwa. Community in Action   The Rotary Club of Goolwa has provided the Goolwa Uniting Church a new 90cm Stove and Range Hood to allow them to better provide community lunches for disadvantaged residents. In the past this has been attended by up to 60 people a week, providing great benefit to the attendees. Rotary Club members volunteer regularly, the Club also provides funds for food supplies when called on. The Uniting Church also runs a men’s breakfast on Wednesday mornings, a monthly luncheon for women at work and has just commenced a youth study program on Wednesday evenings, with food provided for the attendees. Through our fundraising efforts the Rotary Club of Goolwa are pleased to be able to assist our community in outcomes such as this. |
4 Backpack Beds donated to local community Duncan Norris, Wendy Lippett and Noeline Biermann on behalf of the Rotary Club of Goolwa recently handed over 4 Backpack Beds, for those sleeping rough and 10 Sleeping Bags, for those couch surfing, to Mary Mcinnes of Whalers Peninsula Community Housing for use in the Fleurieu. The Australian designed Backpack Beds have won 7 International awards for design and with the onset of winter not only are lightweight and comfortable but assist greatly in improving both health and dignity of the recipient. Demand for the Backpack Beds is so strong that orders are currently limited to the 4 purchased by the club. |

Meeting 1474 ReportSergeant's Helper Ron Hann opening the evening with a joke and handed over to the President Di Keach. President Di welcomed all guests including Andrew Stewart Tony Risby Tony McWinny and John Clement. Di thanked everyone who helped with the Christmas Festival and the Investigator College BBQ. The environmental display will be ready for use for the display in the Mall and at the District Conference. Youth Director Nanette Davis informed the club of the thank .you notes from the Goolwa Primary school for the sponsorship on their awards night. GAPE Chair Greg Casson advised the club that Artist entries for the 2018 exhibition are now open. The planning is well under way. Greg Casson introduced the guest speaker Andrew Stewart President of SABA (Southern Alexandrina Business Association) Andrew Stewart spoke on the function of SABA being to support local business. He spoke at length on all the ways of assisting Business growth in the district  Stewart also won the raffle and drew the yellow ball and went away happy. President Di closed the meeting at 8.30 pm.

Sandpit & Shade for Goolwa Primary Students   On Friday 4th, at the Goolwa Primary School assembly , the Rotary Club of Goolwa was officially thanked for the sandpit and shade sail donated to the school. The club was represented by Helga Campbell, Helen Hurford, Roger Shelden and Di Keach. President Di was presented with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the students and then said a few words on behalf of the club. She spoke briefly of Rotary and the contribution of the organisation in the community and worldwide. Also expressed the hope that one day some of those present may be involved with Rotary. Then moved on to some information and acknowledgements regarding the sandpit and shade sail. The request for the sandpit was made in 2014, it was installed in 2016 and the shade sail completed in 2017. Rotary Vice-president, Kevin Hales gave a great deal of his time to oversee and work on this project from the outset to completion. The Education Dept. had certain requirements and builder Bruce Foote had the necessary qualifications to install the shade sail . The final cost was $8,900 which was raised, locally by the club with a contribution from the Rotary Foundation. Also acknowledged were Nanette Davis, Immediate Past -President and current Director of Youth, and Greg Casson, the previous President both of whom were involved with the progress of the project. Di closed in saying that we are glad to hear that the sandpit was already giving much enjoyment and hoped it will do so for many years to come. She thanked the school and students for the welcome and for the certificate of appreciation and congratulated them on the assembly, very well run by the students themselves, with minimal input from the teachers. |

A PHF is the highest form of recognition given by Rotary International to a Rotarian, or a member of the Community who has contributed their services in keeping with the high principles of Rotary International
