Kevin Hales - GOOLWA CHRISTMAS PAGEANT
A reminder to everyone regarding the Goolwa Christmas Pageant requirement for
Marshalling at street intersections during the Street Parade.
I need several more offers of assistance to be sure we will have sufficient numbers on the day.
The requirement is across the period of 5 pm to 7 pm.
This covers the period of road closures prior to the parade and through until all floats are back to
Their drop off point at the completion of the parade.
Police Training will be provided in the days leading up to the Pageant, to provide us confidence
Should we be faced with a motorist who is trying to go into a ‘Closed Road’ area.
Talk with me as soon as possible please as we need an increase in manpower numbers for this task.
Goolwa Shopping Centre Christmas Stocking Raffle.
Moves are afoot with preparations for the Rotary Club of Goolwa to ‘run’ this raffle again this year.
Ron Hann & I have been working on the prep tasks to make this event happen.
- Selling location(s) in the Goolwa Shopping Centre have been arranged.
- Prize donations have been established; 5 Prizes.
- -1st Prize is the Christmas Stocking: value $300.
Ticket printing will occur over the next 2 weeks.
It is hoped we will commence selling tickets to the public by about 8th November.
The raffle will be drawn late morning on Saturday 15th December, during the “Christmas in the Mall” fun day event, and will be advertised on the tickets.
Rotary Club of Goolwa Trailer Raffle.
Our Rotary Board have approved the purchase of a “Caged Trailer”; this is underway in being manufactured.

- Selling location(s) in the Goolwa Shopping Centre have been arranged and is planned for Thursday, Friday & Saturday each week for the duration of the raffle.
- Discussions are yet to occur with the Rotary Club of Encounter Bay to sell tickets at Goolwa Market days; Jaralde Park (Goolwa Wharf Precinct)
- Prize donations have been established, 5 Prizes.
- -1st Prize is the Caged Trailer plus $1,000 cash.
Ticket printing will occur over the next 2 weeks.
It is hoped to commence selling tickets by 8th November; this raffle will run through until the end of January 2019. The Christmas – New Year and January time is a period where we have the opportunity to collect lots of ‘out of town money’ when all the visitors are in town for their regular seaside holiday.
-Date for the Raffle Draw is yet to be finalized and will be advertised on the printed raffle tickets.
- I am happy to transport the Trailer into & out of the shopping centre; but my need assistance on a few occasions.
- Setting-up at Goolwa Markets @Jaralde Park (Goolwa Wharf Precinct), will most likely require assistance for set-up and pack-up. -More on this later.
A selling roster will be created shortly; please offer your assistance to sell tickets so as to make these important fundraising event a real success for our club over this coming period.

Roger Shelden - REMINDER ADELAIDE ROTARY CLUB GOOLWA VISIT 
It is important as a club we offer a warm welcome to the Rotary Club of Adelaide, let’s provide a good roll up to both or either social event.
FRIDAY EVENING (Nov 16th) Commencing 6.00 pm - Dinner and Lawn Bowls at Goolwa Bowling Club – plus local identity Alan Jones as Guest Speaker – “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”
With daylight saving it is a great way to spend a couple of hours on the green. If you don’t wish to play bowls that is fine, there will be more time to socialise with your good friends over a drink or two..
Cost $20 per person for dinner and bowls. Catering by our Rotary Club of Goolwa. Drinks can be purchased at the Bar.
SATURDAY EVENING (Nov 17th) 6.30pm for 7pm - 2 course Dinner at Fleurieu’s 92 Barrage Rd Goolwa.
Guest Speaker: Georgina Downer.
Georgina has previously worked as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs and Principal at Tenjin Consulting. She has had extensive experience in foreign policy, as the Director of Asialink Diplomacy at the University of Melbourne and as a diplomat at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. Her talk will be on: ‘Brexit, Trump, trade wars and the opportunities for South Australia’.
Cost: $35 per person. Drinks can be purchased at the bar. We would love to see you, friends & partners there.
It will be essential to book. Please advise Roger if you can attend either or both evenings. Payment to Roger by cash, EFT (see emails). Alternatively, you can pay by Credit/Debit Card at the Open Garden on Sat 3rd as we will have an EFTPOS machine available.
District Governor Kim Harvey attended our meeting to present The Rotary Club of Goolwa with a Rotary Citation from the RI President & also a Membership Award for the highest number of new members in the district.
President Di presented a special gift as a personal thank you to Kevin Hales for the tremendous amount of work he did for the 2018 GAPE.
...... and also presented Roger Shelden with the Treasurer's Award for Not for Profit Organisation from the Commonwealth Bank.
The yellow ball was drawn by President Di who took the jackpot and Jenny won heads and tails.
