Future projects include a Westwood substation upgrade, Eagle Lake automated metering, and Viewland/NV energy interconnection. Thanks for an excellent and informative presentation, Doug!

PREPARING FOR THE NEW ROTARY YEAR
Club Leadership Assembly
Here we are in March and we are already preparing for the upcoming Rotary year which begins July 1, 2016.  Such is the Rotary cycle, which gives each club, and our organization as a whole, the opportunity for new leadership each year.
Coming up first is the CLUB LEADERSHIP ASSEMBLY that it is all about the CLUBS! This is the chance for the Club Leadership Team for the year beginning July 1, 2016, future leaders, and other interested Rotarians to attend, along with their President Elect, to gain information, share ideas and to start the process of planning and goal setting.
We have revamped the session offerings to capture what your Club Leadership Team would like to know.  In addition to traditional offerings for Presidents-Elect, Secretaries and Treasurers, we will offer 25 focused sessions.  Topics will include: Engaging Emerging Leaders--developing your Club's toolbox; How to Use Rotary's Voice and Visual Image to benefit your Club; New Youth Programs--Most Improved Student; Girls Who Code and Club Learning Chair--putting the new Club position into Action.

Susanville Sunrise Rotary heard from Sheriff Dean Growden about changes resulting from the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act passed by voters. He noted that former drug and burglary felonies are now misdemeanors, and law enforcement responses are radically changed as a result of reduced sentences for new offenders and releases for those in jail for those offenses. Lassen County recently had 42% in jail on narcotics offenses, and now has 0%. Sheriff Growden also spoke about a grant recently awarded for $220,000/year to address good decision-making among school children. Thanks, Sheriff Growden, for an excellent presentation!

ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER 2015-02-26 00:00:00Z 0

23 February 1905: Rotary Club of Chicago was the First of the Sixteen Clubs prior to the formation of the National Association of Rotary Clubs. The first gathering, on Thursday evening, 23 February 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. was called by attorney Paul P. Harris. Young Harris, fresh from a wild five years as a reporter, actor, cowboy, seaman, granite salesman, fruit picker and hotel clerk, five years building a successful law practice, then had an idea. Paul Harris expressed observations of success and respect which could come from organizing professional acquaintances. This was the foundation upon which Rotary International was built. Happy Birthday, Rotary!

Three attorneys serve inmates at two large prisons in Lassen County, and the prosecutor works as a contract employee of the District Attorney's office. Noting that CA has some of the toughest laws in the nation, he said his role is to do his best to ensure that inmates are treated fairly under the law. Good presentation - thanks, Steve!

Susanville Sunrise Rotary heard a presentation from Superior Court Judge Tony Mallery today. Judge Mallery noted that courts are constrained by the governor and controlled by legislation. Of the three judicial branches, trial judges don't have the time that appellate and supreme court judges enjoy in making decisions. Judge Mallery said his goal is to be as sure as possible that the decision is right so it isn't appealed. He said he favors community service where appropriate, and individuals doing community service are available to participate in Rotary projects. Excellent presentation - thanks so much, Judge Mallery!

Josephson spoke about ethical relativism (what society decides) and universal ethics (Rotary's 4-way test) and highlighted the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship, suggesting that we should filter questions through these six items in making decisions.
