PETS CHANGE LIVES

Susanville Sunrise Rotary welcomed Vicki Reinsel (left) and Mary Morphis (right) of the Lassen Humane Society to the meeting this morning. While the Humane Society is separate from the local Animal Shelter, the two work closely to promote adoption of dogs and cats. Eight years ago Mary Morphis started Pups on Parole, a program that identifies dogs for placement with minimum custody inmates, who then wash, feed, and train the dogs, making the dogs more adoptable. One inmate grew so attached that he adopted the dog upon release and is now a veterinarian; the pup he trained changed his life.
