Rotary Club of Susanville Sunrise receives a District Award Grant check for $2,000 from Rotary District 5190.

Sunrise Rotary applied for and received grant funds of $2,000 which will be matched with an additional $2,000 from the club for a total of $4,000 to support the local Community Garden.

Rotarian Norman Mah was inspired back in 2007 while walking along the Susanville River trail upon looking at piece of property with fruit trees. Fast forward to today, his vision is becoming a reality.  In 2018 Rotarian David Teeter from the Rotary Club of Susanville and Seth Anderson of The Rustic Rancher stepped in and helped organize and spearhead funding within the community. Planting started in the spring of 2018.  Rotarian Daniel Kazakos, of the Rotary Club of Susanville Sunrise and Community Leader, took the initiative to apply for a District Grant on behalf of our club.

"The purpose of this garden is to foster healthier lifestyle choices while providing a means for the community to locally source their food. This is a collaboration between community leaders, WIC, and Lassen Aurora Network & Wellness Center. The community garden will be sustained by local growers, sponsors, and organizations. This is in addition to the sale of consumable goods generated from the garden. The garden will grow various seasonal crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, squash and fruits from various trees. Susanville's community garden will be accessible to people of all ages. The community garden is centrally located in the City of Susanville on less than an acre of City property. The garden will be a place of food production that can help sustain an ecological, economic and social standard. The garden can help members of the community engage in teamwork and produce low cost healthy produce." Daniel Kazakos
