Coronavirus - Artisan Cheese Industry
May 14, 2020
Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company Some say they can taste it. The Pacific coastal fog that so often settles over and lightly salts the pastures of Giacomini Ranch. The crisp, pristine air. The lush, rye grass. Clearly, it brings a healthy freshness to the cheeses made here at Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company. Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company was founded in 2000, we already had the most important part. Our dairy farm has always been known for making the freshest, highest quality milk. Our family’s herd of Holsteins were all raised from birth right on the property, giving us complete quality control from start to finish. Our first creamery was, and still is, right next in the milking parlor. In 2018, to fulfill the increasing demand for our nationally famous, distinctive award-winning products, we proudly opened a second production facility in the nearby town of Petaluma. Original Blue, our raw milk cheese, continues to be made on the farm in Point Reyes. Our pasteurized cheeses, Toma, Bay Blue and Gouda, are handcrafted in Petaluma, where we source milk from neighbors who share our sustainable farming philosophies. Last February, Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, was certified as a majority women-owned business by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council after a rigorous application process. Of course, the business isn’t just mostly owned by women—it’s 100 percent owned by women, and has been for 10 years. The coronavirus pandemic has challenged many businesses throughout the world. Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese is developing long-term plans that will allow them continue making world-class artisan cheeses.

Stress Management
Jun 04, 2020
BANO ANN CUMMINGS
Marriage & Family Therapist, MA, LMFT
Many of us experience enough stressful events in our family, personal, and work lives that we can easily get lost in how best to understand them, feel about them, and respond to them. Clients who are wanting to feel better by thinking more clearly, finding a more positive focus, and noticing a change in how they think about the stressors in their lives find they, then, can feel calmer, and breathe easily. And clients who want to experience their personal and work relationships improve and become more cooperative are the ones who notice how more resilient they can become .
In my work, whether group, family, couple or individual, I utilize a blend of therapeutic approaches that will increase one's ability to see more possibilities in how one looks at how one can loosen the stuck places in their life.

A Conversation with the Mayor & City Manager
Jul 30, 2020
Peggy Flynn, Petaluma City Manager If the City Council is like a board of directors, the City Manager is the CEO. Our City Manager, Peggy Flynn, makes sure the Council has the information they need to make important decisions and then she oversees the teams that make those decisions become a reality. She coordinates City work with other Cities and regional agencies, she sets the tone for staff and she makes all the hard decisions. As the saying goes… the buck stops at the top! In addition to overseeing the big picture, the manager also oversees the Planning, Building, Technology, Economic Development and Housing divisions. Peggy Flynn was named the City of Petaluma's tenth City Manager in February, 2019. She brings more than 25 years of public sector experience, having served in communications and leadership positions for the City of Novato, the Santa Clara Valley Water District, and the San Jose Redevelopment Agency. “Being Petaluma's City Manager is a dream come true. I'm honored to work alongside experienced, professional, and dedicated staff and City Council members to serve residents and businesses. As a long-time member of this community, I am deeply committed to ensuring a thriving Petaluma for generations to come.”
Teresa Barrett, Mayor of Petaluma I have lived in Petaluma since 1979 where I have been an active community member while raising my two sons. My community involvement initially focused around gardening and in the schools her sons attended. That shifted when I took my Master Gardener training to the Petaluma Tree Advisory Committee in the late nineties. Then, in 1999 I applied for the Petaluma Planning Commission where I served on both the Planning Commission and the now dissolved Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee for more than six years. In 2006 I launched my first campaign for Petaluma City Council with a focus that has continued since then: Listen to our residents. Do what is best for the people and neighborhoods of Petaluma. Keep the long-term impacts of today’s decisions in mind at all times. I served three consecutive terms on the City Council during which time I represented Petaluma and Sonoma County on the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Local Agency Formation District of Sonoma County, Zone 2A, and Library Advisory Board. In 2018 I ran for and was elected to the office of Mayor of the City of Petaluma. In addition to my elected duties, I am a member of, or am active in many local, regional and international organizations.

Conscious Capitalism - Elevating Humanity Through Business
Nov 05, 2020
You may have heard about Conscious Capitalism. Conscious Capitalism is a way of thinking about capitalism and business that better reflects where we are in the human journey, the state of our world today, and the innate potential of business to make a positive impact on the world. This is a relatively new and growing force in business and so we are delighted to have some experts to share their insights about it. Speaking to us are: Matt Reynolds, Co-Founder of Indigenous Clothing and a Founding B Corp here in Petaluma and Johanna Lyman, Board Chair of Conscious Capitalism - Bay Area Chapter. I am acting PRESIDENT/Co-Founder of INDIGENOUS Organic + Fair Trade Fashion, a pioneer and leader in the areas of sustainable supply chain, fair trade, human rights, artisan community development, organic products, and the movement toward regenerative and sustainable solutions. My path began while I was living in throughout South America as a child. There I witnessed my father, a developmental economist, work to create opportunity for those who needed it most. The special people I met in South America were part of my daily life, and their rich culture left an indelible impression. After a prosperous early career in retail, I realized my heart was searching for more. The marriage of my retail acumen with my compassion for the world's diverse peoples and cultures was a natural step in my personal growth, and my path was chosen. |
