PETALUMA ROTARY WORKING WITH MIRACLE LEAGUE

The Miracle League, a 501C3 non-profit organization (EIN #81-2922763), is dedicated to making dreams come true for children with special needs.  As much fun kids have playing, the Miracle League is far more than playing a game.  It's about making new friends, building self-esteem and knowing what it feels like to be treated like as an athlete.  Using a "buddy system," also helps special kids build  beautiful bonds between disabled players and able-bodied players, with American Little League president Todd Bugbee already promoting his 300 local members to foster a "spirit of all-inclusiveness," discipline and sportsmanship.  While the Miracle League has over 700 locations throughout the United States, we have a scant two facilities in California.

Miracle League of the North Bay local leaders include :
President Jennifer Richardson,
Vice President Alicia Hansel,
Secretary Phoebe Ellis,
Treasurer Sarah Chirco,
Board member John Busick

For the last year, the Miracle League principals have been hard at work to bring the facilities to the North Bay.  The Petaluma Miracle League will positively impact the lives of more than 50,000 children and adults  by serving Sonoma, Napa, Lake Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, Marin and San Francisco Counties.

The Miracle League teams play on a custom-designed, rubberized turf field that accommodates wheelchairs and other assertive devices while helping to prevent injuries.  But wait, there's more - adjacent to the Miracle League field KaBOOM, PG&E and community members like the Petaluma Rotary Club will be on hand to assemble the playground. Our Rotarian Larry Jonas, also a local artist, will personally be designing a "giving tree" to recognize donors and help support Miracle League fund development as well as local fundraising events.

In fact, the Petaluma Rotary Club has initiated several initiatives to provide financial support to the Miracle League effort.  At our big January 2017 annual event, we raised $75,000 for the Miracle League project in cooperation with our generous Rotarians and sponsors.  And last year our Rotarians also raised another $10,000 through our "Fork to Field" raffle.  So when something works well, rinse, lather, wash and repeat!  So again this year we are optimistic to do even better with a second "Fork to Field" wave!  And we are proud to announce that the Miracle League will be naming their Concession Stand in honor of the Petaluma Rotary Club:

Along with the full support of the City Council of Petaluma, generous local and out of State donors, the Miracle League Bay Area anticipates reaching its financial goals to begin Phase 2 of the build in Spring 2018.  Regular operation will be during the Spring and Fall with highlighted games on Saturdays.  Miracle League is collaborating with the Petaluma Educational Fund for financial management, Boys and Girls Club to manage day to day operations, The Petaluma Community Guild, The Downs Syndrome Association, Ghilotti Construction, Brewsters, our Petaluma Rotary Club and many other businesses and organizations including the Petaluma Parks and Recreation department.

n addition to the field itself, the facility located between the Petaluma Lucchesi Community Center and the three American Little League fields.
The players and their families will also enjoy modern snack facilities and bathrooms.  City Councilwoman Kathy Miller and liaison to the Recreation, Music, and Parks Commission has gone on the record stating the field would be an economic boom for the City of Petaluma, drawing players and families from surrounding communities.
