Pizza for Polio - Thank YouWhat is polio, and why should I care? Polio is a highly contagious viral disease that can cause paralysis. There is no cure. You may not have heard of it because of the worldwide vaccination program. On Friday, October 24, Jet's Pizza at the locations below donated $2 per pizza toward the eradication of polio. Thank you, Jet's Pizza, for our continued support toward the eradication of polio.

Fostering Hope through BackpacksFostering Hope is an ongoing Backpack project partnered with DHHS in Saginaw. The project provides the “First Nights Stay” for children who are in a Child Protective Services/ Removal/ Foster Care situation. The backpacks are packed with essentials for the night. Pajamas, underwear, socks, a toy, and age appropriate toiletries. The program, which started in 2019, delivered over 155 backpacks in its first full year. The Club has continued this program into 2025. This project has been funded by Club fundraisers and private Rotarian donations.

Secret Santa ProjectIn December 2022, the Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise extended its reach by helping additional families in Saginaw by expanding its Rotary Holiday Wishes and Secret Santa Project through generous donations from our club members. On Thursday, December 15th, 50 meals provided by Sombreros Mexican Restaurant in Saginaw and 20 Walmart gift cards valued at $50 each were delivered to The Mustard Seed Shelter on Cherry Street in Saginaw. Mustard Seed provides a safe, supportive and structured home to single women and women with children experiencing homelessness. We also delivered meals for 27 people on that day to Emmaus House of Saginaw located on 14th Street in Saginaw. Emmaus House is a home for women coming from jail, prison, or rehabilitation. The purpose of Emmaus House is to provide the women with a family-like Christian atmosphere while they are creating new lives for themselves. |

Little Free LibraryThe Saginaw Sunrise Rotary Club sponsors a “Little Free Library” at Krossroads Park near the Rainbows End playground in Kochville Township. The Library is a book exchange for children to encourage reading. It has a "take a book, leave a book" policy, although it is perfectly all right to take the book home as well. Come check it out. |
Rotary Reading Loft BuildsSunrise Builds Rotary Reading Lofts in Saginaw County for Elementary Schools in the Saginaw School District every year. The lofts are used as an incentive for students to Read. The lofts are for K-3 classrooms. Teachers are given $150.00 to purchase books.

Cinco K Run for the Hand Washing Project
Martial Arts Connection and the Saginaw Sunrise Rotary Club have joined forces to make the fifth annual Cinco K “Cinco De Mayo” part of Rotary District 6310's annual district conference. Not only does the Cinco K event continue its donation to the American GI Forum scholarship fund, but this year a big percentage will go to help with the Dominican Republic Hand Washing Project. As Rotarian and run organizer, Joe Sticker said, "the Cinco K is very excited to be a part of this great organization." The Cinco K “ Cinco De Mayo” will be Sunday the 4th 2014. 10th Anniversary CelebrationWe celebrated our club's 10th anniversary on Friday, November 4, 2011. We welcomed guests and Rotarians as we shared the wonderful moments from the past ten years. Our inaugural club president was Bob Moffit and our district governor was Dick Campbell. A special thanks went out to Mike Elliott and Steve Wildes who were instrumental in guiding our club during our provisional stage and the early stages of our growth as a new club.
Our Rotary club was chartered on September 7, 2001. OUr members area a great bunch of people doing fantastic things in the community and the world. Some of our projects include Japanese relief efforts by providing needed defibrillators, dictionaries to 3rd grade students, maintenance of Krossroads Park with its accessible playground, construction of an observation platform in Krossroads Park, assistance to United Way families at holiday time, sponsorship of local high school students at leadership camp, and other active projects. |

Afghan GSE Team Visits SaginawAn Afghan Group Study Exchange (GSE) team visited the Saginaw Sunrise club on Friday, June 17. These young professionals area able to visit the US courtesy of contributions to the Rotary Foundation. This represents Afghanistan's first such team. The Rotary Foundation’s GSE program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program provides travel grants for this team teams to exchange visits in paired areas of different countries. For about four weeks, team members experience our Great Lakes area to learn about US culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced in the US, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas. This is but one example of how Rotary works toward world peace and understanding among countries. The Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise meets every Friday at 7:30 a.m. at Davenport University. |

Club Gives Dictionaries to 3rd Grade Students
In December, our Rotary club gave more than 150 dictionaries to 3rd grade students at Carrollton Elementary and Zilwaukee Elementary schools. The annual project encouraging reading by supplying each 3rd grader with their own dictionary. Other clubs in the region have a similar project.
