Community Projects

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise, Saginaw, Michigan, USA, founded in 2001, sponsors and executes domestic community projects in Saginaw, Michigan and surrounding communities and international humanitarian projects.

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation raised $ 9,000 in 6 weeks for Covid-19 relief and donated 400 masks and 400 bar soaps to Saginaw County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The Club donated remaining funds to First Ward Community Center and Hidden Harvest, a local food bank to purchase and distribute 20,000 pounds of food (16,900 meals) to those most vulnerable in Saginaw during the Covid-19 pandemic in May 2020. _{https://drive.google.com/file/d/1B5YvoeKKL5pI0H8eZ21rr5uNNFXxYww2/view}

 

 In collaboration with Child Abuse and Neglect Council (CAN Council) in Saginaw and Diaper Alliance, Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise donated 10,000 diapers to Child Protective Services and 50 masks to the staff in DHHS in Saginaw during the pandemic in 2020.

 

Our Rotary Club donated socks and shoes to those in need in Saginaw in October 2020.

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise fosters hope to children during their “First Night’s Stay” in a Child Protective Service/Removal/Foster Care situation with a “Back Pack project” partnered with DHHS in Saginaw. Back packs are packed with essentials for the night and age-appropriate toiletries.

Feeding Frontline Health Care Workers: In collaboration with two other Rotary Clubs and other organizations in Saginaw, Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise participated in providing 400 meals to honor and support our frontline health care heroes at two local hospitals, Covenant HealthCare and Ascension St. Mary’s, during the pandemic in December 2020.

 

Our Club donated funds and is collaborating with a local Mexican restaurant, Sombrero’s owned by a Sunrise Rotarian, Joseph Stricker, to deliver “Secret Santa Hot Meals” to the most vulnerable families in our community in 2021.

 

The Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation awards need and merit base academic scholarships. The club awarded $13,500.00 to eight (8) undergraduate students attending Michigan colleges and universities from 2016-2021. The $1000.00 annual scholarship is renewable and may be applied for up to four years for eligible recipients.

 

Our Club was a co-sponsor of Cinco de Mayo 5K Run Fundraiser in Saginaw 2014-2018 to assist with the Saginaw Sunrise Rotary Foundation Scholarships.

 

Our Club collected children’s books in 2017 and mailed to Philippines, an initiative of our Rotary District 6310.

 

Our Club maintained a mini library with children’s books in Rainbow park in Saginaw during 2017 -2019 and families were allowed to take free books home.

 

It is customary for Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise to adopt several families or a non-profit organization in the Saginaw Community during the Christmas holiday season each year from 2003 -2020. Approximately $500.00-$1000.00 is spent to provide essential needs and gifts to the families and non-profit organizations to support essential services to the communities they serve.

In collaboration with two other Rotary Clubs in Saginaw, Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation raises funds to facilitate a $10,000 “Thanks for Staying Rotary scholarship” each year for the last 4 years to a medical student graduating from Central Michigan University College of Medicine, who enrolls in a primary care residency program in mid-Michigan and intends to establish a medical practice in a community in mid- Michigan after completing residency to address physician shortage in our communities.

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise raises funds and actively supports The Rotary Foundation’s eradicate Polio plus program each year.

 

Our Club is an active participant in organizing a Professional Development Zoom Presentation to Young Professionals throughout our Rotary District by Michael Angelo Caruso in December 2020.

 

Our Rotary Club organized 2- day Yoga workshops at Saginaw Valley State University during 2018 and 2019 and more than 100 community members attended each of those workshops. Funds raised were used to assist our Club’s Scholarship program and HEAL water project.

 

Reading Lofts Community Project: Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise is fortunate to have several handymen and handywomen members. The Club members built 11 reading lofts/libraries in several elementary schools in Saginaw and Bay City from 2013-2019.

 

Our Rotary Club provided Dictionaries to students in several local elementary Schools from 2013-2019.

 

Our Club members actively participate in Bell Ringing each year during the holiday season and raise funds for the Salvation Army.

Our Rotary Club members actively support Child Abuse and Neglect Council (CAN Council) in Saginaw, Michigan.

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise was one of the initial sponsors of Rainbow Park in Saginaw, also known as Crossroads Park.  In 2002 our Club members helped assemble the handicapped playground equipment. Around 2004, our Club was responsible for building the large entrance which bears our name. Around 2007, our Club built the handicapped accessible fishing dock on the lake next to the park. Around the same period, our Club installed a handicapped accessible drinking fountain in the park.  

 

Our Club members pick up trash in Crossroads Park in the spring each year.

 

Our Club members picked up trash along I-675 from Tittabawassee Road North each year from 2002 – 2010.  

 

In collaboration with the Saginaw Valley Club, our Rotary Club built the gazebo at the Japanese Tea Garden in Saginaw for a centennial project.  

 

 

Water project in Dominican Republic: Our Club raised funds to co-sponsor a Water project in Dominican Republic, an initiative of our Rotary District 6310.

 

 

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation raised funds to qualify for a global grant and facilitated construction of sustainable Reverse Osmosis drinking water plants in two villages, Appapuram and Gopapuram, AP, India in 2015. Our Club also facilitated construction of a sanitation block to include 40 urinals and toilets for girls and boys and multiple hand washing stations in Lions Montessori School, Pedanandipadu, AP, India in 2015.

 

 

Our Club raised funds for Lions Montessori School, Pedanandipadu, AP, India in 2017 – 2018 to facilitate purchase of two used school buses to transport students from neighboring villages.

 

2015 earthquake followed by landslides in Nepal: Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise sponsored 3 Shelter Boxes containing family-sized tents, thermal blankets, groundsheets, water storage and purification equipment, solar lamps, cooking utensils and mosquito nets and specially designed to withstand extreme weather, including winds up to 70 mph. 

 

 

Rotary Eye Hospital, Proddatur, AP, India was sponsored and actively supported by Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation for more than a decade. Our Rotary Club raised funds to qualify for a Rotary Global Grant to equip a second surgical suite for cataract surgeries in the Rotary Eye Hospital in 2017. This hospital provides free or affordable eye care including eye surgeries and serves about 2 million people in 300 surrounding villages.

 

 

 

 

 

Health and Education for All (HEAL) is a private charity dedicated to provide shelter, food, health and education from grade 1-10 to about 600 orphans and disadvantaged children in Thotapalli, AP, India. HEAL includes an Institute for Visually Challenged, where Braille is currently taught to 24 children.

Rotary Club of Saginaw Sunrise Foundation raised funds to qualify for a Global Grant to construct a centralized system to supply safe water to all ten buildings in a 27 acres complex during 2020-2021.
